compared to a gentle breeze ruffling the pages of your book as you roll over to the other side of your picnic blanket to let the afternoon sun warm the other side of your body.
Theres not yet, i want to make a way for people to adjust discover settings but thats a good chunk of work we havent gotten to yet.
How is the proportion of posts from following? I have aggregate metrics but sometimes individual feeds get different blends for whatever reason
I’d say it “feels” like more than half of the discover feed overlaps my following because I’m either following them or the posts were reposted by someone I am following. When it feels like substantially more than that, I check Mastodon.
Well, THANK YOU so much for the wonderful Discover feed! I only recently started using the "more of this" and "less of this" tweaking (thanks to @brianlarossa.com for the tip) and it's made all the difference! Now I use it every day.
I ordinarily never use the equivalent on other platforms.
Yay!
One really helpful thing, if you're ever in a feedback giving mood, if there are posts you really wanted to see but you didn't get through Discover, i'm curious to know what they are so I can figure out how to do better post matching.
big fan of the Discover feed generally. One thing that's come up for me though is that, when i tell it to serve up more photos of animals, it's also serving up animal eulogies more often - and I can't tell if telling it to serve *those* less often is confusing it
The Discover feed is great, except that I often see posts from people I’m already following and who post a ton on my feed already. I’d love more hidden gems.
hope you guys are optimizing the tests for something more healthy than just:
- time spent in feed
- time spent in app
- likes / replies / engagement / rage
hm surely there’s a bunch of experience / literature out there about this, would like to read up if anyone happens to have tips
some of the feedback loops for cultivating a healthy app are gonna be slow & tricky 🤔
the show more/less button is kinda hidden, I think you should do that thing that occasionally the feed asks if you want to see more/enjoyed the post
hide post should also trigger show less automatically (if this already happens, maybe it should be informed)
I think I already submitted feedback for both those things tho
discover got a lot better! it's much more addicting than it was some months ago, but I'm still not able to scroll for hours (unfortunately, that's the goal) etc
there are a lot of posts that I just don't feel like reading for some reason
