If you tell me five minutes before the interview that you will ask about my favorite authors, I will have a thousand names for you.
If you ask who my favorite authors are DURING the interview, I will forget how reading even works.
I just straight-up forgot the names. Of everything. On the reading list. I talked around a question regarding Vergil's Eclogues because I could not remember the word "Eclogues".
I think your Weird is more useful than my Weird in this area.
I keep an online reading journal so if I can overcome my embarrassment about pulling out my phone, I can totally tell you some GREAT stuff I've read lately but otherwise...
Oh my gosh, this is such a theme for me and I believe that -- in my case, -- it's tied in with autism. I also personally avoid many real-time communications for that reason (so, trust is a very important factor when choosing which comms to do in real time). Either way, so relatable!!
This basically happened to me in an interview once. Judge asked me the last book I read. Last book I had read was controversial and political, so I hesitated. He took that as I never read and made some condescending comment. I'm like motherfucker I read like two books a month. So frustrating.
It took me about 5 interviews/panels before I realized I could anticipate this question and plan a list of books to share
....which I then still proceeding to forget to have with me about 50% of the time 🤦♀️
