Oh, I hadn't noticed that. That would be bad, definitely. I got burned years ago debugging something where an O vs. 0 in a string made all the difference. Back then I was using Courier New (shudder). Do you have a suggestion for a better font?
Online, I often mix both types of quotes. Makes it easier do differente who said what. i.e. (okay, it contains three types of brackets or quotes)

You can nest language and it gets even better. I'm not anywhere close to an expert, but as far as I'm aware, after " ", you can ' ' for a quote within a quote. But.... You can ' ' for a quote within a quote within a quote
So she said "she said ' she said 'she said 'she said' ' ' " I think is correct
