It's time for a second founding Relatedly, we're going all the way back to 1776 on this one. The conflict is literally whether we're going to be ruled by a king now.
I think you mean Third Founding. The Second Founding happened 150 years ago.
Meh. I know it's gotten that name. Don't think it deserves it.
I think it deserves it. I mean, eliminating slavery and subordinating states' police powers to federal oversight is a huge change. Only a bit smaller than getting rid of the king the last time around.
I think it mostly papered over cracks. Big changes that were immediately backed away from during Jim Crow

Ending slavery was a lot bigger than that. And the changes that were made gave the feds all the authority they needed to end Jim Crow *once they wanted to*.
