This #penguinpicoftheday #PPOTD is interesting bc there are two species coexisting in this one nesting spot, both gentoos (foreground) and Adelies in the background. IIRC there are only like 3 places where all brushtail penguins coexist, and they are on the Peninsula, of course. 🧪🌍🦑🦉

Please, for the love of socks. You could not care less. Or you couldn't care less. If you're telling us you don't give a shit about something, you don't have the capacity to care about it at all. Saying "I could care less" means you DO care about it.

If it is wide enough for a car to overtake a bicycle without crossing into the next lane, it is wide enough for a separated bike lane. If it is not wide enough for a separated bike lane, it is not wide enough for a car to overtake a bicycle without crossing into the next lane. You can't have both.

The Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility--the point farthest from any land mass, is Point Nemo, 1,670 miles away from Pandora Islet, Moto Nui, & Maher Island off Antarctica. It's so remote that often the closest humans are those in the International Space Station when it passes overhead 250 miles up.

Life is better at 20mph. Kids can walk and cycle safely. It's easier to pull out at junctions. Everything's calmer except dickheads that are frustrated with their sad lives.

Two additional reasons I love the Tour de France. 1. It triggers anti-cyclists. 2. It triggers Brexiteers BC it is in Europe & is multi-cultural\ethnic. Can't wait for the TdFF to have 3 reasons.

I've become convinced that one of the biggest obstacles to better road design in commercial areas is well-off business owners who drive their BMW to work every day and find it impossible to imagine a customer who uses any other mode of conveyance to arrive at the shop.

The best thing about British democracy is when the actual head of government has to stand in a leisure centre at 5 am beside a guy with a bin on his head to find out if he still has a job.

The #penguinpicoftheday #PPOTD today is of some Adélie penguins! One of two “true” Antarctic penguins, these birds live on ice free land that just-so perfectly contains pebbles for nests. Which they steal from each other. 🌎🧪🦑🦉

Today someone asked me if a new bike lane was being built "just for me" because nobody else cycles. While we were having this conversation, there were at least 5 cyclists on the cycle lane immediately in front of us.

The Antarctic Treaty is first of five separate treaties—the others are the Treaty of Tlatelolco (1967), the Treaty of Rarotonga (1985), the Bangkok Treaty (1995), and Treaty of Pelindaba (1996)—officially designating most of the Southern Hemisphere a nuclear-weapon-free zone.

The treaty was signed in Washington, DC, on December 1, 1959, by representatives of 12 countries (Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Chile, France, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States). It currently has 54 states parties.
