The magpies got shouty on the balcony this morning. So I filled the water bowls. They aren't being shouty any more. Is this luck? Coincidence? Or have we figured out how to communicate??

Everybody needs to see this quote, understand that this is what Project 2025 is about, and internalize the fact that this is what the Republican Party is doing. This is not a conspiracy theory from the left. They are saying it out loud. #politics #news

This includes covid-safe considerations!
Disabled and chronically ill people include members of *every marginalized group that exists*. If you are doing activism but not making your spaces accessible. If you are doing activism but not for disability. You are not doing activitism, you are doing exclusion. Happy Disability Pride Month!

This is a heartening thread comparing likes, posts, and shares on Bluesky, Threads, and X. There's also information about a climate change scientists regular posting. Bluesky performed really well -- and the difference between positive responses and trolling is dramatic.
Yesterday, I shared this same Canada Day thread on Bluesky, Threads, and X. Here's what I found. 🧵

Fun fact: Canadian citizens are not allowed to obtain peerage, via the Nickel Resolution. So we don't particularly value this type of nonsense and will treat people with disdain (see Baron Black the newspaperman).
PSA America It's Sir Keir, or (the) Prime Minister, or just the surname. It's not "Prime Minister Starmer" and--I'm begging you here--it is not "Sir Starmer" under any circumstances whatsoever. No. Bad.

Covid doesn’t look the same every time you get infected, said Dr. Davey Smith, an infectious disease specialist at the University of California, San Diego. You might have cold and flu symptoms during one bout of the virus, and gastrointestinal symptoms the next time. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/05/w...

Keep talking about how Donald Trump is credibly accused of sexually assaulting twelve year old children, with assistance from Epstein.
I saw this was trending and had to google it "The post alleges that Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for this year's presidential election, "forced" young girls to "perform lesbian sex acts."

Back in the early to mid 2010s there was this view that you should gently convince right wingers to believe in climate science and my response was always: "a right wing that believes the science is scarier than one that denies it" WELP HERE WE ARE www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The bane of Canadians everywhere... First Past The Post is such an annoyance. But nobody is brave enough to install proportional representation. Even when it's in their election platform.
+210 seats gained on a +2% increase in vote share. FPTP Democracy truly a miracle of representation.

My one and only comment on the election results: next time every expert in the country warns us that Tory economic policy will be disastrous and ruin the country within a decade, maybe let’s not let them do it for 14 years anyway before going “oh wow, they were right”

I got my fabric order! Which is very exciting (the one I ordered in march before getting covid). Most of the fabrics are beautifully soft and the colours are so vivid. And while I have plans for some, I am rethinking my plans for others... Because they're so soft. This is better than fabric land.

At least the Australians have democracy sausages. We get to shuffle around a school gym and then go home to watch the CBC coverage and try not to fall asleep. Our biggest tradition is watching the election be largely decided by the time the polls close in BC.
this is just glorious. I would attribute this to the Parliamentary system except in both Canada and Oz we let the candidates go back to their offices and have drinks and nibblies with their supporters, like cowards, instead of forcing them to hang out with the mad local competition in their ridings
