"Almost no effect" In a close race with battlegrounds it is intended to solidify unsure supporters. This did the opposite. There's an effect and in a tight race with battlegrounds in play it makes a difference.

To push back a bit, I think one major component of POTUS that can't be delegated is being the figurehead of the country. The debates are auditions for that. I wish moral fiber, policy, and ability to run an effective administration was enough to decide the election, but I fear it may not be.
