Someone who I didn't think was progressive but who I assumed was reasonable went full-on "if the right-wing takes over France it's because the ungrateful immigrants tried to destroy the country" and welp.
But this is on the heels of learning about a bunch of other white antiracist women doing all kinds of bullshit like stealing credit for work from non white women etc.
yep this the one I assumed you were talking about. she's been punching left for a long time, but it's still kind of jarring for me to see her punch left in a way that would seem to override the source of her alleged moral superiority
I thought she was with Lincoln Project, so not even really "progressive," just one of those "I'm right-wing but Trump will be too incompetent at right-wing policy" types.
Apparently she is now. I just remember her publishing some electoral analysis, a little while back, purporting to prove that Democrats had a better chance of winning if they didn't go too far "left," and I can't find it now.
It appears she's got some new book out about how Democrats should attack Republican extremism more aggressively and stop advertising themselves as bipartisan cooperators, which is all well and good, but she seems to have very specific ideas about what makes Dems look like the Good Guys
People who think you can put someone's politics on an axis like fuckin D&D alignments should be stripped of all social media access and get paid to stay home.
Oh I vaguely remember her - was right about one thing once and tried to parlay it into being a next big thing iirc. I suppose it's not a massive shock to see some "don't be too left" type get all nativist, but it's maybe a little surprising considering she's not French.

I don't know about the person or text context. But my sister's MIL is elderly French in south France and it is definitely sparkling MAGA and white hot hate for Macron allowing far right to grab power. The retirement age change a couple years ago strafed his support on both sides.
I don’t recall her ever being progressive. She’s always been pretty awful, but mostly in a self-promoting pollster kind of way. She’s posted garbage before but I don’t recall it ever being this bad
I think what's most annoying about this is her conviction that working at Christopher Newport University and a Washington D.C. think tank on Democratic messaging give her any special insight whatsoever into French culture and politics.
For a lot of white liberals, it was a very short leap - more like a little hop - from defending Israel post 10/7 to going full on Islamophobic and anti-Arab racist. I guess the post 9/11 indoctrination never went away when Bush left office, it just went into hiding.
