Yup. If you believe (as I do) that Twitter is a maliciously algorithmed right-wing media company and that more people should come here to post and discuss issues in good faith, you can't also insist that BlueSky be made up of people that share our opinions or we consider correct.
I think it comes down to conflicting views of what the platform should be. Bluesky has an early adopted problem — its earliest users think they should dictate who uses it and how it gets used. That's both good (weird, funny, no hate) and bad (bullying anyone even slightly offside.)

I wish this would be covered as a mask-off moment for MSNBC after dozens of other instances of them being obvious right-wing media, but it will be covered as a one-off and within a week we will be back to calling them 'Liberals'.
What the fuck, MSNBC? You preempted The Weekend @Velshi and now you've silenced Morning Joe in favor of your anodyne streaming news cos-play called Now? This is when we need the analysis these shows bring us (yes, with controversy; that is how public discourse works through it: with discussion). 1/

Senate Dems should take one of their assorted gun control bills off the shelf, rename it something like "Trump Assassination Prevention Act," and force Rs to do a talking filibuster to block it

If you want to block all the people who harassed Jamelle Bouie off the site at once, this list is handy. Hit subscribe, then block.
Weird Bouie reply guys
What the name says. Some accounts on the list are truly horrible all the time and some just made a muteworthy skeet one time. This list is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Jamelle Bouie or anyone other than myself.

I get why people have concerns about Biden and I am not without concerns myself. But I just fundamentally do not think you can have a functional democracy, or expect good outcomes, if you have a news media that applies such wildly divergent standards to the two candidates.

They wrap themselves in it like a warm blanket. There is nothing CBS, ABC, NBC, NYT, WaPo etc love more than being labelled as 'Liberal' while they promote conservative ideologies.
right wing propaganda's greatest success is seeding the lie that our overwhelmingly center-right corporatist press is somehow "too liberal" in reality, anything vaguely resembling progressivism is defunded and marginalized (ask me how I know)

Wow this really hits home for me. Gender aside I'm absolutely the one on the right. It's ok to really love beats without expressing it through clothing and hair style choices.

One of the most impactful and infuriating algorithms in our lives is the routing algorithm on Google Maps. With 80% market share, it offers us very little control over our routes. If we want better, we will need to support competition like OpenStreetMaps. My latest for NYT Opinion (gift link):
Opinion | Your Driving App Is Leading You Astraywww.nytimes.com Programmed to find the fastest route without consideration of literally anything else, driving apps endanger and infuriate us on a remarkably regular basis.

Wife activated a free one-month Amazon Prime subscription and man, Prime Video is somehow even worse than it was a year ago. How do people watch this trash.

This is very applicable to the media in #Canada as well. CBC/Bell Media/Postmedia running pro-Polievre/anti-Trudeau slop nonstop is a reflection of what they think will benefit *them*. Not you or I, or our country.
if there is one thing I want to come out of this election, regardless of result, it is Dems - and the left more generally - finally understanding that they need to make their own media ecosystem and stop relying on folks who want them to lose to get their message out

@jordanhr.bsky.social I really enjoyed the EV episode you just dropped. We have a serviceable ICE vehicle (2012 Nissan Rogue), my wife wants something nicer and I'm desperately hoping the price of EVs in Canada comes down before she forces my hand on a $50k+ hybrid.

This. Again, liberals *of which I am one* shoulder a lot of the blame for this state of affairs because too many of us were taken in by NYT and believed it was genuinely on our side, a few 'oopsies' aside
The MSM has been an exercise in elite-capture for decades & its currentteration has been in the tank for Trump since 2016. The NYT was practically fellating Hitler before he invaded Poland. The NYT's core audience is people who think Ross Douthat knows what he's talking about.

The only advice I’d give the Biden campaign is to go to war with the NYT. They’re even less popular than Biden or Trump, would form a good rallying cry, and reframes the campaign to be an underdog attempt to push good policy against elites who don’t want it. “NYT is for the billionaires, we’re not.”

This is pathetic framing. Raise prices and pay these engineers market wages. This is not on the federal government or labour minister no matter how many corporate media companies attempt to position it this way.

The NYT editorial board presents itself as like a wise adjunct group of strategists advising Democrats how to run their shop, but (a) it’s run and largely staffed by de facto Republican operatives and (b) it has no similar paternalistic scrutiny for Republicans.
In Opinion The greatest public service President Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not run for re-election, the editorial board writes after Thursday's presidential debate.
Opinion | To Serve His Country, President Biden Should Leave the Racewww.nytimes.com The president’s inadequate performance in the debate made it clear he is not the man he was four years ago.

I agree, if Bezos' Billionaire AI News Co is framing a (by all accounts) disastrous Biden debate performance this way, perhaps there is hope.
Extremely good for Biden if the debate is generating mainstream headlines like this, relative to what I'd have expected the coverage to be like!
