I forgot to shut down the donations before we left so another $10 did trickle in - I will mail them another check (I use checks for this to avoid transfer fees). Here are a few more scenes, including the sponsorship plaque we maintain there in memory of our beloved tortie Magpie. ❤️

May I ask about the origin of the Potato Bears? It’s such a lovely name for a cat.

I... don't know. I think maybe I got it from a friend who rescues opossums and calls them potato bears? Or maybe I came up with it and he got it from me? I'm not sure! I just tried googling it but most of the results led back to me.

So funny! I call my cat many variations on 'potato/spud'. It seems to fit cats so well. He's currently 'chicken potato' after physically accosting me for roast chicken 😂

I do occasionally call purs chicken, though just because it sort of…works?

It is a most excellent name and probably better than us periodically calling ours ‘lumpy’, we they aren’t at all. Potato bear is very endearing.

lol I know. Someday we'll have a house and I'll be able to foster and have more but I have to force myself to be responsible and realize two is the right number for our space and resources right now. More would be unfair to them.

I don’t know if it’s bc I’m feeling poorly or if it’s bc I’m hormonal, or what, but it’s a good thing for everyone I live thousands of miles from Bucket bc otherwise I would be having a fight (w/my SO) over that cat today.

There was a lady at the shelter who was very interested in Bucket while we were there! He may already be in a nice home today!

Oh I definitely hope so! I have very rarely been so intensely enamoured by a cat, save for our last void pud who passed at the beginning of the pandemic. She was declawed & returned several times, had a bitey problem bc of it. She’d bite me when I cried. I miss voidcat! Bucket deserves a happy home!

I overheard one moment when the lady suddenly remembered that she had a tattoo with a bucket in it and she was so excited, like it was a sign. I wanted to see the tattoo but I thought that would definitely be crossing an eavesdropping/nosiness line.

I love kitty adoption signs. When I adopted my boy cat, I was going through a phase where I was super into Clarence Darrow and thought Darrow would be a good cat name. I connected with a friendly gray tabby at the shelter and saw his name was Monkey Man!

Previously mentioned void pud was actually advertised by the shelter as a dog. She played fetch, was working at clicker training (I got bored of it before she did). Miss her terribly! Her shelter name was Elektra and it never really felt right, but we didn’t find anything better. <3 Monkey Man!

I hope Bucket got the best home!

Oh I agree. And know that. But.... I've never thought "as long as there's no serious fighting" was a sure thing, especially with cats. Granted, I'm a gay man who watched most of his friends die in 80s and 90s from HIV so I'm extra EXTRA cautious about acquired immunodeficiency.

My cat cannot be trusted to not bite others hard. He is an only cat as a result (no FIV, but I'd be worried he'd accidentally kill another feline)
