I have some bad news about American institutions.
WSJ this morning. lol at the last bit. "Leaders on both sides need to stop describing the stakes of the election in apocalyptic terms. Democracy won't end if one or the other candidate is elected. Fascism is not aborning if Mr. Trump wins, unless you have little faith in American institutions."

imagine looking at even just the last few weeks of previously unfathomable legal opinions and thinking, "yup, our institutions are resilient!"

Shareholders are still getting their dividends, so everything is fine, no reason for concern, remain calm!

They made it through (barely) one of his presidencies already! Let's not put more weight on them right now! We haven't even cemented the cracks!

Literally still cracking as we speak.

Yes! It's bad! Jesus!

Like throwing a rock at a window. The spiderwebbing cracks take a *long* time to spread, and you kind of just have to replace the window, at a certain point.

WSJ and the Murdoch Empire more generally just desperately backpedaling so they don’t get shipped to Gitmo in a second Trump administration.

The entire Republican platform for the last 50 years has been about destroying the faith in our institutions.

My faith in institutions didn't survive 45's presidency.

idk courtney what if the gyre just, like, stops widening all of a sudden?

I truly could not stop laughing when I read that earlier. Just. What.

It often occurs to me that the Murdochs either have unwarranted confidence in Western democracy or unwarranted confidence that their wealth will shield them from the collapse of that democracy.

Jesus. Clueless or complicit?
Avatar
It's not that I don't have faith in them, it's that the institutions turned out to be a mirage.

Apparently most folks memories are only 3.5 years

Stop trying to murder trump.

The last 8 years of American history have taught me to not have trust in institutions, and that whenever possible, they are trodden upon and rendered useless. We need to stop pretending that we're in normal times. Or facing normal foes.
