There’s a rhetorical slide at the RNC where various setbacks and threats to Trump are attributed to “them.” They tried to jail him, they tried to kill him. We don’t know the shooter’s ideology, but he’s being slotted into the Deep State v Trump storyline.
As soon as we learned that Crooks was a registered Republican it was clear that the assassination attempt was going to be a two-day story.

There are cops from all over the country in Milwaukee for RNC. Saw New Jersey police badges when I went to Walgreen’s here.
If the shooting was “not related to the RNC,” why would cops from Columbus, Ohio be involved in the first place? Also, pretty on the nose for cops from a red state to come to a blue city and kill a homeless black guy on the second night of the RNC. www.jsonline.com/story/news/c...

Jack Black has replaced Kyle Gass with Tim Tebow and they are now called Respectful D and sing songs about doing normal push-ups instead of ones with their dick

This is actually a much less outreach/unity-brained convention than 2020, when whole speeches were devoted to criminal justice reform.
The "unity convention" is now airing a terrible rap song with the refrain "FJB."

Yeah, it's very unusual. Normally the candidate hides out at least until late Weds night after the VP speech

Yes but this gave us, in the room, the visual of Trump slightly shimmying to Forgiato Blow's "Trump Trump Baby" and JD Vance standing completely still with his hands at his sides.
Wait, it's abnormal for the nominee to be sitting around watching every night of their own convention, right, it's like a time-reversed version of the dude who graduated last year hanging around the high school parking lot

I was just thinking about how Obama had the PUMAs to contend with heading into his 2008 convention, Clinton had Bernie or Bust in 2016, and now Biden has this sort of cross-cutting rebellion that elected progressives have decided not to join.
I knew having AOC, Bernie and other progressives demonstrate they have his back would pay dividends but I didn't think it would happen so quickly

With the exception of certain career updates, I don't typically cross-post from one social media to the others, mostly because I use them all for slightly different things. And also, I just find cross-posting generally not fun. Also, absolutely, block for whatever reason you want.
I didn't see @scalzi.com cross-post this here, but thought I throw the screencap up on here, with the added kicker that, if there's any collective lesson we learned in our experience in The Bad Place, is that you just need to unapologetically block, block, block anyone that you don't vibe with.

I tend to think the effect of the presidency on the homicide rate is probably pretty negligible, but if Trump wants to run on the opposite premise, this should be mentioned constantly.
Just a reminder: Trump inherited the lowest homicide rate of any president in 50 years. He was the first president in 30 years to leave office with a higher homicide rate than when he entered. And the rate has dropped every year since he left. www.foxnews.com/video/635815...

That guy sucks - turned down a George Packer piece because he refused to include his phrenology edits.

that sounds like a plan, maybe you should quit this website like Jamelle and then we won’t bother you anymore

Not only a mile from the arena, but across the freeway that bisects that part of town and forms an enormous physical barrier
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel confirms that a Columbus, Ohio, police officer detailed to the RNC shot and killed a homeless Black man (earlier reported to be in his early 20s) more than half a mile from the RNC arena. The man was known by the nickname Jehovah and took care of a pit bull named Isis.

Not too bad. Had to break off to do a CNN panel, finishing an unrelated story. If you're a well-adjusted adult, online discourse can be annoying but you don't build your life around it.
hey man are you having a good time, is this fun for you

I was severely depressed in my early 20s, even institutionalized myself for a week, and worked hard to fix that with therapy. Yes, I do see some abusive, crazy behavior on here that strikes me as anger exploding outward instead of being treated. I don't like it!
You're so right Dave, frequently people disagree with me and I know they only do it because they're mentally ill. Intellectual perfection is more a curse than a blessing, I'm sure you can relate!

deleted this bc it was ruder than I wanted to be. I'm fed up with the rude and personal attacks on this but that post was too dismissive. Rest of posts make the point

I responded to one person whose name I cut out to avoid blasting them, and that wasn’t what I said. Other than that, great question

I got too hot about it bc the Jamelle thing pissed me off. Started to feel dishonest to just sit there and watch him get accused of genocide support bc he doesn’t quit a job at a paper that has LGBT coverage that some people dislike.
Respect, you and Jamelle both are great writers and I would hate to see you follow him off cuz of this

No, I'm done with this. From now on I'm just muting and blocking anon accounts that can't treat other people with respect. It's been annoying to watch friends quit this app because of a handful of rude people with no wit, dignity, or manners.
