I caught this Acmon blue butterfly at the right angle where the natural light has caused the scales to iridesce across the entire spectrum of colors, but still dominated by the indigo-blue the species is named for 📷🌈🦋

No, not a polar bear. This is 128 Grazer, the blonde brown bear of Brooks River. People often ask if she's a polar bear hybrid (she's not, she just has the right recessive genes for a shockingly blonde coat). Her cubs are offscreen.

Two months ago Greg Abbott pardoned a murderer who texted a friend "I might go to Dallas to shoot looters" then drove into a BLM protest in Austin and killed a protester. The universal response from conservatives to the pardon was "Yeah! Woo-hoo!" Now they say liberals should turn down the rhetoric

Lots of fish being caught today and yesterday! Who knows how the salmon run will continue to unfold, but so far it's been merciful to the bears this year, especially after extremely lean years with late runs in 2022 and 2023. (Bear in the pic is 807.)

We all love fat bears, but what about little bears? Here's darling 4yo 354. Her mom is 854 Divot. I've been watching 354 since she was a cub, and she's always been spunky and resourceful, catching her own fish as a yearling. Such a gift to be able to watch her grow up.

128 Grazer resting while her cubs are safely up a tree. Being a new mom is hard work, and you can see she has new wounds on her head from defending her cubs. Grazer is an amazing mom and will challenge any bear, regardless of size, when her cubs are in danger.
