I do think it speaks incredibly well of everyone aiming for 2028 to recognize how fucked the entire effort is to push Joe out and not to bite. Congress is not only entitled to its feelings but obligated to disagree. Despite everything, Democrats are the adults in the room.

That succession crisis will be all four seasons of the show, the McCarthy Speakership debacle, and the failed weeks of negotiation to replace him all mixed together with POTUS cycle antics. It will be glorious.

It’s so funny too that so much is being made of replacing Biden, like he has no possible alternative (except his elected successor, validated by the same process that made him president), when Republicans are Fucked if anything at all happens to Trump.

I was really thinking about this earlier too. Trump took no part of the primaries due to court and basically that just proved that the people running in the party could not get away with saying the fucked up things Trump does. It was a very clear choice the voters made.

It’s wild too, because Republicans have so, so many reasons to replace Trump on the ballot, and he even ran a primary with opponents and everything…but GOP voters have made their preference clear and they’re the only voters who are legitimate.

All of the people indulging in these fantasy Democratic primary scenarios think that people vote reflexively because it’s what they themselves do; they don’t realize that turnout is a product of hard work. Unseen, unheralded work. By unseen, unheralded people.

I don’t know why they think pissing off the door-knockers and canvassing power of the party will end well, but these people don’t understand what they refuse to see

The backlash from base voters who very explicitly demanded a Black woman as VP (and on the Court) as our “seat at the table” in exchange for our electoral organizing…whew, you are not prepared. But almost all of the white alternatives are, and it’s why they keep saying no.

by choosing anyone other than harris to replace biden should he decide to step aside, the party would be revealing they very cynically chose her as veep for optics without believing she could actually be president.

I also think that right now, Trump is benefitting from not having a VP. Once he does pick someone, it’s going to be that person v Kamala, a competition I think she’s *much* stronger on even than her v Trump.

The majority is arranged around the question of “should the government or doctors and patients determine abortion care?” Not the details of abortion restrictions, since most people don’t have strong opinions. This is obvious, based on the major wins abortion rights have had the last two years.

I do think so, on the basis of abortion support, which is pretty much in the 55-60% range when actually measured by votes. 2 in 3 New Yorkers wanted congestion pricing. Majorities favor higher taxes on the wealthy. If you don’t see progressive majorities, it’s because they’re being suppressed.
