To this end, we should consider using this election as an opportunity to put civics back in classrooms. Republicans are trying to normalize the 10 commandments when we should be posting the first 10 amendments for every child to learn and understand. What a difference it would make to our politics!

I used to be that person who was so frustrated at how long it took people to notice serious problems that I had always seen, but becoming a political writer taught me how little training or knowledge most people have about the system and how much help they need to navigate it. That’s our role.

Thank you for noticing/arriving is so much better for maintaining engagement than contempt for how long it took, and if you haven’t grown out of that response, you’re still learning how to do politics too

The problem with "where have you been" responses to people's rising political concerns is that we should be encouraging people to become politically active rather than scolding them upon their arrival.

If you are a politically engaged person, the best thing you can do is provide guidance and access to people who aren’t versed in this stuff. Most of my work is 200-300 level, not entry, but I try to make sure that messages I craft make sense for people scrolling by. We need them!

I didn’t know that and Rep. Owens was my Congressman growing up, and my dad did a lot of organizing with him! But getting more accessibility built into Black communities is essential, so I’m not surprised.

I would too! As much as this was about closing a contentious discourse on one side, it was about opening another, hopefully more productive discussion on another.

Tremendous that for decades we've lampooned "Villain spends time elaborating every detail of the evil scheme right before they implement it, giving the hero the time and information to foil it" as like cartoonishly stupid and then here comes the Heritage Foundation.
