NONE OF THIS EXPLAINS WHY YOU WOULD HANG A FLAG UPSIDE DOWN.
More details on the Alitos vs. the neighbors story, none of which actually explain the upside-down flag

Incredible DC brain on display here. An EXTRAORDINARY break with Norms to ask for a different debate schedule. Is this Biden’s January 6??
The takes about how the Commission on Presidential Debates is some venerable sacred bipartisan institution is one of the most on-the-nose examples I've seen lately of NY/DC centrist elite media bubble brain. Nobody cares and most people who are aware of the CPD's existence vehemently hate it.

Decades from now, the polite mainstream will claim the legacy of the protester who stands bravely against the jeering white boys - just like it currently claims the legacy of protesters who stood bravely decades ago. But let’s remember where the polite mainstream stands in the moment.

Throughout the morning, conservative justices have been citing infirmities in the criminal justice system writ large as reasons to give former presidents immunity, rather than things that ought to be fixed for everyone.

As King of America you’re allowed to do anything except forgive student loans and regulate carbon.
in a country founded directly on "no kings, fuck kings in particular" it is beyond insulting that supposed "originalist" judges are taking seriously the proposition that the President is in fact a king

Originalism is the worst of all possible constitutional theories. It leaves every decision open to a judge, untrained in the actual history they’re writing about, where they get to use history as their personal decision-making Ouija board.

One of the primary sources referenced in that podcast is a 1976 Ford campaign memo that sought to understand how Reagan had been able to mobilize so many voters. Their conclusion was that they were being "out-organized by...highly motivated right wing nuts." www.fordlibrarymuseum.gov/library/exhi...

Sonia Sotomayor could announce her retirement tonight, using the moment to denounce the Supreme Court’s descent into dipshittery and call for broad reforms. But she’s an institutionalist who’ll hang on, writing dissents and doing PR work with Justice Barrett, until she’s replaced by Aileen Cannon.

If my math is right, #SCOTUS has issued 21 "administrative" (temporary) stays since the beginning of OT2020. 11 of the stays have been indefinite; 10 have had deadlines. 9 of the 10 with deadlines have come from Justice Alito—who's had to issue *8* extensions of those deadlines:

I am once again begging people with power within the Democratic Party to devise a better strategy for dealing with the right-wing death grip on the courts than "win every election for 30 years and hopefully appoint their replacements." In 30 years of this there won't be anything left to salvage.

My guess is that SCOTUS thinks Jack Smith didn't adequately address this argument from Trump (and he didn't--not below and not in his brief). Smith is just going to have to distinguish Trump's use of presidency for personal gain. www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/23...
