I feel bad for the journalists inside the NYT, the WSJ and Washington Post trying to do excellent work in spite of leadership decisions and terrible op-eds that undermine those ongoing efforts

Extremely frustrating to hear legal experts analyzing the SCOTUS ruling on immunity like just another case - it's an inherently normalizing act. People need to stop playing constitutional Calvinball and treat them like political actors.

You can use the Paprika app to grab NYT recipes from behind the firewall if you’re not logged in. Just saying.
This does it. When I get on my computer, I will cancel my subscription despite the good recipes.

One other thing Mike Morell told HJC (aside from explaining how Trump's narcissism makes something like Jan6 more likely) is that the 2016 RU attack started in 2014, which I had come to believe, but didn't realize the spooks did too. www.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

NEW BALL OF THREAD: 3| TAPPED (into narcissism) The FBI found several staffers trying to rip Donald Trump off. @emptywheel.bsky.social shows how Trump’s narcissism turned that into an attack on him personally. And the "deep state" conspiracy theory was born. www.patreon.com/posts/3-tapp...

I want to thank Jim Jordan for asking an intelligence expert (Mike Morell) to lay out how Trump has the personality of a dictator. www.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

New Yorker wants Joe Biden, whose admin has had historical success, to resign bc he's not doing well at running for re-election. This is not, in fact, what the 25th Amendment was made for.

Amanda talks about how if you factually describe that the SCOTUS immunity ruling permits the President to kill his rivals if done as CinC, they accuse you of TDS. I even had Catturd do that to me!
Why read past headlines: If you wonder why Trump and his cronies say terrible things out loud that should turn off swing voters, this article explains it. But it's a high-risk/high-reward fascist strategy. With Project 2025, it may be backfiring. www.salon.com/2024/07/05/p...

Big victory for Labour — so big that the NYT just gave Sir Keir his own version of ‘Joe Biden Is Old’

I hate that newspapers make it so easy to subscribe online but don't let you cancel online. So, I guess I am calling the NYT to cancel tomorrow. Despite my love for the recipes and reading the paper since I was a kid, I have to stop subsidizing their crap. transphobia, antivax, now antivoting!

Labour will make all the same errors Tony Blair did. Hopefully marginally less incompetently than the Tories made their errors.

The thing is Nixon would have been a FAR better unaccountable President than Trump, if you ignore the spying on shrinks.
This 4th of July, thinking of him, and how he didn’t live to see his constitutional revolution finally come to pass

Fucking hilarious NYT put their "But her emails" correspondent on a Biden story, when they pay her a lot of money to maintain non-stop access to Trump's camp.

i really am going to be logged off for the holiday but i would like to drop off a parting thought: publishing a monarchist anti-voting take on the fourth of july is the strongest possible indication of someone's core, true values

Look! NYT found something important to interrupt it's old man Biden coverage and it's not Heritage Foundation's plan for revolution or the way lower courts are rolling back rights. Good to see their crack editorial judgment remains undiminished.
Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island is back. On Thursday, Miki Sudo easily won the women’s title for the 10th time. She ate 51 hot dogs in 10 minutes, setting a new women’s record and exceeding her 2023 total of 39.5 hot dogs. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/04/n...

This summary of Rahimi, from noted constitutional scholar @petersagal.bsky.social, strikes me as the only short term way out of the Immunity ruling. Once it became clear how nutball Bruen was, everyone but Thomas came around, somewhat. bsky.app/profile/pete...
I recommend reading through the Rahimi decision, concurrences and dissent. Decision: Bruen was fine, but let’s not get crazy. Gorsuch, Kavanagh: Bruen may be nuts, but originalism is good! Kagan, Sotomayor: We done told you Jackson: Look at the mess you made Thomas: DIE UNHAPPY LOSERS
