Semi retired union rep, Oregon is home. I travel when I can afford it, interests in human origins, photography, fly fishing and restoring our US public lands..
Today's homemade: mozzarella, fontina, romano cheese, some chunks of genoa salami, dotted with nduja sausage, onion, jalapeno, sweet yellow peppers. The nduja- spicier than pepperoni with Calabrian peppers, slightly sweet, and slightly smoked, it renders into a little puddle of flavored cured pork.
Today's home made: 4 day cold ferment sourdough, mozzarella and pecorino romano, chopped home smoked picanha and pepperoni, sliced yellow onion. Smoked tender beef on pizza - highly recommend.
Took my son in law Andy on a guided fly fishing trip on the McKenzie river yesterday, here he is with the guide holding his first ever fish caught on a fly. Beautiful day, fish, company, even running some white water, the McKenzie is an a Oregon treasure.
Where are you at? Here's a photo from my yard in Oregon. I dug these up in the woods across the street from my parent's home in PA about 20 years ago, I keep a small plot of them.
Sourdough sandwich loaf, 70% hydration, 24 hour cold ferment, 4 hour proof in oven, baked for 25 minutes @475, 10 more minutes @375, misted with water a few times during baking.
One of life's little pleasures is going over all your fishing tackle, cleaning it, replacing what is broken or outdated, sorting and organizing fly and tackle boxes and gathering it up, putting it in order, getting ready for the season to start. Just several hours of really pleasant noodling around.
When I was a kid, my dad had a friend with a garage nearby where he worked on his sprint car. We spent lots of summer nights there and at the races. On a whim I googled the guy's name and it turns out that his car has been restored and is up for auction. Is this not one of the beautiful things?
