They’re going to get even angrier when it turns out that they don’t actually have the ability to unilaterally direct the course of events like their egos tell them they should be able to do.
The fascinating part is that they're right that's the only way it would work (by "their delegates" they'd have to mean "already selected delegates who are now unpledged and can vote for anyone and will decide the nominee"), and somehow think it'd still be a good idea.
i've been wanting them to do this for years... in the other direction. since it's everyone's duty to save democracy. but here they are, doing this instead
I don’t know how you can provide a good faith defense for anything that these editorial boards are doing. It’s a complete shitshow in a way that should permanently end all of their credibilities
If you’re going to put incredibly cringe fanfic in the self-purported paper of record, you should have the decency to attach your name to it.
This, just like the NYT one, hides behind the monolith of the Board.
I wish we had had a nationwide discussion on editorial boards ruining journalism for a while now; who these people are and why they are operating how they operate. Deciding headlines that are the only part read by 85% of people, etc. Too late now.
"I have, in consultation with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the National Security Council, declared the Washington Post Editorial Board to be terrorists. Kamala Harris and I will be directing the airstrikes from the Situation Room here at the White House. The bombing begins in five minutes."
One of the things I have always slammed Matt Taibbi about is his fanfic Bush Iraq War apology Rolling Stone published but this is WAY more embarrassing.
Ok but that would be so cool. Not as cool as Harris stepping aside too so we get some fresh slate new energy. But still it's good to see the paper war gaming things. We haven't had that spirit here since 1974.
