Why doesn't JDV wear a MAGApillow too? Is he preparing to replace DJT?

Katy Tur? According to Keith Olbermann, she has gone through an inner transformation that sounds similar to what happened to Dennis Miller after 9/11.

Media matters. Spy Magazine gave Trump jeers & the nickname "short fingered vulgarian", & NYers understood what Trump was about. Unfortunately, more non-NYers watched The Apprentice than read Spy. In lieu of JDV getting Mad treatment, national press praised the bad sociology of 'Hillbilly Elegy'.

Good but very different choices.

[I must confess to watching more of the All-Star wiffle ball game on the Ocho (ESPN '8') than the ESPN home run competition. The latter is a display of raw power. Wiffle ball pits pitcher against batter, with an opportunity to show off running and fielding skills after the ball is put into play.]

Elly is delightful, and with my neighborhood's old 5-on-5 whiffle ball rules, he would be up to bat every inning.

As a young adult, I owned season tickets for both a Class A & an MLB team & was immersed in SABR analytics. Now as an old guy, darn, I find the game static & too fragmented. Starting pitchers don't go 6 innings between surgeries, relievers = batters & not innings, DH relieves both of hitting, etc.

It is a function of specialization and number of fielded players. The best 7-8 players on a basketball team play every game. A starting pitcher like Scenes starts only every 4-5 games during the regular season, and the Pirates still need 9 everyday players (including DH, excluding platoon players).

The Reds' Elly de la Cruz is one of the most exciting on-field players ever. Rookie Pirate pitcher Paul Scenes is rewriting the MLB record book. Neither the Reds nor the Pirates are likely to make this year's playoffs. Hard to think of another sport where individual excellence matters so little.

The dog days of ESPN summer: SportsCenter begins with highlights from a home run hitting competition. It follows with video of the only basket scored by the son of a current NBA star during a pre-season basketball game. A US map locating teams in the realigned SEC college football conference.

Once asked a law professor to list US Supreme Court justices who could be characterized as liberal. The list was short, & such names as Ginsberg came with footnotes. He included William O. Douglas and Oliver Holmes as his career evolved. Sadly, rookie K.B. Jackson had already made the top 5.

Before there was 'Hamilton:, '1776' provided a musical look at the crises facing our Founding Fathers. John Cullen as S Carolina rep Rutledge sings the climactic song 'Molasses to Rum'. He reminds other delegates that colonies as far north as Massachusetts benefitted from slave trade.

John Marshall lived 79 years and was the longest serving Chief Justice (1801-1835). Average lifespans in the early days were reduced by now treatable diseases and high rates of infant and maternal mortality. (In that sense, modern Republicans want a society much like that of our Founding Fathers.)

It would be hilarious if the prompts are the names of his pets. Alas, nobody would be that naive.

*brilliant* Good news: Justice Thomas could loan her one and all the gas she needs. Let him make a phone call or two.

Reminder: GOP justices have been in the majority on the Supreme Court for 55 years. More than half a century.

PBS reports: "A local law enforcement officer climbed to the roof & found Crooks, who pointed the rifle at the officer. The officer then retreated down the ladder, & the gunman quickly fired toward Trump...." As at Uvalde, cops don't protect against gunmen.

Is anyone claiming that the Cop City facilities being built near Atlanta and other cities will address these police failures?

I hope the reporter was not so oblivious as the headline writer and editor. I'm a 71yo white US male. Since watching Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated on TV at age 10, I watched RFK die on TV, seen other gunshot victims on TV, been threatened w/ handguns 3x, cared for 2 gunshot victims, 1/

heard Supreme Court justices declare that guns have more right to exist than us Americans, & been told that I would be safer if I could identify the caliber of specific bullets. When I met David Hogg on Friday, my mind flashed to the fact that Kyle Rittenhouse is back in the news. 2/

And so on. Like I said. I'm a 71 white American who has lived in middle class neighborhoods, and yet I have been unable to avoid the trauma of gun violence. So forgive me if I and many of my fellow Americans didn't notice our sense of security melt away Saturday evening. 3/

Since the days of George W. Bush, Republican administrations have selected Federal Agency Inspector General leadership from Secret Service personnel. The key feature seems to be personal loyalty, not exactly what is needed from SS officers or IG heads. Biden should have cleaned SS house in '21.
Avatar
Not saying the SS did not perform well Saturday. Just dredging up questions from 3 years ago I tried to get Dems thinking about. I also declared it was time for a Dem head of the FBI and appointing Dem Special Prosecutors. (I was so young (68) and naive back then.)

Have news organizations interviewed the North Carolina GOP gubernatorial candidate about his suggestion last week that some people need killing?

Most interesting facts learned at Netroots Nation: 1) Baltimore pioneered real estate redlining. 2) Republican appointed justices have been in the majority of the Supreme Court for 55 years (since 1969). The Brown decision desegregating schools was more than a decade before the GOP took over.

Has the NY Times published the number of mass shootings in the US Saturday. There can't have been only two. Don't many mass murder victims get no attention at all?
