Cultivating a safe space in our head & heart isn't some touchy feely optional thing. What we visualize & how it makes us feel very much matters, especially when the world around us is fraught. Create & hold vivid images of people & places that connect you to safety & meaning.

These 3 paragraphs is why an American authoritarian system will be so vicious and so lasting. It’s Pétain’s “Travail, Famille, Patrie” strongly anchored in evangelical Christianity & projected through White supremacy. This is a very good piece by Robert Kagan.
Robert Kagan really takes the Conservatives to the meat grinder in this piece.

Yes, now it is 2024, and I have to ask: what lessons have we learned, and from what school have we learned it? And have we learned our lessons well? Are we seeking war, or something else, that is not war, but is not nothing, either? Expanded essay: www.the-reframe.com/war-or-nothi...

In my experience, trauma survivors do not lack gratitude. In fact, survivors are very often the most gracious, grateful people you’ll ever meet. Survivors tend to be grateful for even the little stuff, because we know how precarious experiences of safety & pleasure can be.

I wrote about why the phalanx of elite opinionists who pretended to be all riled up about the “free speech crisis” on college campuses for years has had nary a critical word to offer about the violent suppression of speech happening right now. This week’s piece:

Just saw the video of cops tasing one of the kids at the Emory protest. He’s Black, on the ground w/ multiple cops restraining him and they tased him. We should be so much madder about all this. I am so angry we lied and told these kids education and college campuses would protect them.

I started reading The Sandman when I was 12. They were on comic number 9 or 10 at the time. I grew up to be a writer, goth, game developer, and professor. Correlation or causation - who knows? I'm sure they and other great stories nudged me along a good path.

We have two failed hunting dogs! Peanut and Butter. Folks should look around and adopt them from shelters, and definitely not shoot them.
Hi from rural America. Nobody shoots a high dollar hunting dog. They cost real money. You either offload it to a family friend or make it a house pet. You could also use it for breeding,l, assuming it was registered. Beyond being cruel, and cowardly, it was financially stupid.
