One of the things that sucks about actually being able to “do your own research” is how I’m constantly being shown the ways that my patients, people I care about, or in this case all American children, are suffering horribly from easily preventable problems that I am still unable to solve in any way
When little kids don’t have stable housing, it can affect their health laterwww.npr.org Researchers following a group of American children for decades found that even short periods of housing instability increased the chances of poor mental and physical health years later.

Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

Probably worth contemplating that well-scrubbed white American conservative Christians may be the most evil group of people in the history of mankind, when it comes down to the final tally of human suffering.

History will recall that the New York Times, that bastion of "the liberal media," on July 4, 2024 chose to give prime space on their op-ed page to a theocratic absolutist who argued that people shouldn't vote, even though he himself has voted in the last 2 elections (but nowhere is that mentioned).
When I first saw this I thought "no, that can't possibly be true." But alas, the Times did indeed choose today of all days to publish a right winger's recycled piece about how they don't vote, failing to mention that the author basically thinks absolutist theocracies are cool.

Man, if it turns out that the right winger telling NY Times readers that they should follow his example and not vote did in fact vote in the last two elections, the Times should add this to the piece. Better than a retraction, since it illustrates a willful hypocrisy.
He voted in both 2020 and 2022.

none of this matters. he wants a republican to win and a democrat to lose. he wrote the immunity opinion because trump is currently the republican nominee and he wants him to be the next president. you don't have to overthink this. roberts certainly didn't.
Even so, any self-reflection on giving a free pass to an unstable monster who thinks he got fucked by you 4 years ago might lead one to go "maybe I shouldn't."

this may be hard to fathom but john roberts does not believe a single word of that opinion.
John Roberts must be the most neurotypical person in existence because the immunity ruling reads like someone who has never had a single “but what if…???” anxiety spiral in his life

this entire crusade against diversity in hiring and admissions is based on the supposition that all white men are necessarily more qualified than any nonwhite person or woman who might be considered for the job. like, this lawsuit more or less states that outright.

Conservatism (which is really just authoritarianism dressed up nice) has always demanded that they not only be told that they're right, acknowledged that only they have valuable ideas and indeed must be loved for imposing those ideas on everyone else.
A common lament is there is no civility left these days, because those on the “left” refuse to be friends with the “right" over "political views." This implies something startling: conservatives want to be friends with the rest of us. Had you realized? www.the-reframe.com/if-you-want-...

This has been a thorn in my side re: the American political landscape; countless articles bemoaning the polarization of America and the loss of civility. As a queer person, it’s hard to see a path to compromise and civility when the right wing has been openly saying I shouldn’t exist my entire life.

Alas, Biden's reaction was closer to "I'll be damned. 'To Serve Man' is a cookbook! I promise not to use these recipes!"
After the Court’s decision yesterday, I think there’s an argument from necessity for Biden seizing Trump and trying him by military tribunal, given the sudden unavailability of Article III courts. Plus, itʼs just the sort of thing they’ve authorized an active and energetic chief executive to do.

The States Project is one of the best bang-for-your-buck options for your campaign donations. Even beyond it, though, state legislatures deserve your attention. Next time you're tempted to send money to whoever's going to lose to MTG, send it instead to a contested state leg seat.

Keeping Trump out of the White House isn’t the only thing that needs doing and it isn’t enough to solve all problems facing the country & world but if it isn’t done then all those problems get exponentially worse in ways I don’t even know how to express and it scares me when people pretend otherwise
