If someone told you, "Many of America's top reporters spend a lot of their day in a chat room run by a 'great replacement' believing white supremacist and where many posters are Nazis" you'd be alarmed. That's basically the situation now.
I’ve said this a million times, but I’m genuinely frightened about what Musk’s fascist propaganda network is doing to do to our politics. I really wish someone, anyone, would come up with a collective strategy to get journalists, organizers and elected officials off the platform.

Also how much of their doxible data is being collected and collated by Musk and what will he do with it? I get there are reasons for some to still use Twitter but I am not sure if they good enough for the risk alone.

Not only Musk, Not only Right or Left ...
Oh dear. I do hope that those who use such threats on the service formerly know as Twitter are aware that their identities may be more exposed than they considered....

I can only control me. I got off Twitter after Musk showed interest in purchasing. I spent over a decade on it and deleted my account in minutes. I deleted my Facebook after Cambridge Analytica. There was life before social media, there’ll be life after it.

I’ll delete this account at the drop of a hat too. I know we’re in a hall of mirrors and we should act like it. We’re not here to play cocktail party. We’re here to be worked over by psychometrics and data-mined. We’re the product not the users.

I hate the internet and think we’re all better off in meatspace. Every radicalization starts with spending too much time online.

Don’t forget that the peculiarities of this chat room afford completely invisible control of distribution both by the management as well as anyone willing to buy popularity, now that the algorithm input (Likes) are not auditable.

I could be (hope I am) wrong but it really feels like Elon is just lining himself up to be the next Trump. Business guy seen as more gifted than he is by angry white dudes. He has made himself a political figure by having opinions to please said white dudes.
I mean as of now he couldn't just because not born in America. I figure by the time we got to a place that became a throwaway for SCOTUS we would already be beyond f'd. So guess not impossible.

I was speaking to a friend who is a (former) sports journalist. He's still on Twitter (X), but he interacts with it entirely though lists that he has curated. It effectively removes a lot of the unsavory content. I wonder to what extent other journalists have adopted this approach.

I'm still on Twitter and I don't see any of that. You can curate your feed, you know.
Avatar
Agreed. If you use "Following" you see only stuff you want and it's chronological. Now, I have stopped liking and replying as a sort of protest, and I rarely read replies anymore for obvious reasons. But it still works to get news and, especially sports coverage.

No shit! Leave the Xwitthole and never look back.

It's the sitting down with Nazis parable.

Many on the Left left Twitter and eventually landed here in a silo... ...now I'm worried that the left voices leaving allowed the conversation on Twitter to become terribly lopsided and the less politically engaged are slowly being swayed further right because of it.

But also figure Musk would shadow ban the left enough into their own silo that it probably wouldn't matter
