I’ve said this a million times, but I’m genuinely frightened about what Musk’s fascist propaganda network is doing to do to our politics.
I really wish someone, anyone, would come up with a collective strategy to get journalists, organizers and elected officials off the platform.
Dipping back into Twitter to lurk on assassination stuff and truly, from the bottom of my heart, unless you have massively curated lists, no one in media or politics should be microwaving their neurons on there.
My mans, even bringing up the problems with the platform gets you a vexatious lawsuit by the owner, a Congressional subpoena from Jim Jordan, countless death threats and a series of posts by LibsOfTikTok and the NYPost. The time to stop this was four years ago but people sat on their dicks.
Currently, USG agencies like the National weather service are forbidden to post on threads. I don’t think they’re even allowed to have accounts. It seems like a red alert emergency to fix that but no one seems to care.
Beats me. I just know that them, SBA, FEMA, etc don’t have accounts and I know for a couple of those agencies, the policy rules say they can only have social media accounts for Facebook and Twitter.
It won't be long before Threads is integrated with Facebook. Instagram lets you cross post to Facebook. And Threads posts are showing up in my Facebook stream. I can read them, but I can't respond as I don't have a Threads login.
It’s highly annoying. I’m a volunteer weather spotter (Skywarn) and while you can post to the NWS website the fastest & best distro way is Twitter. Fire alerts are kinda similar in a way. Lots of wx infrastructure exists too & Threads only just put out an API IIRC.
The only reason why X has any more credibility than 8chan is because of all the media people who are completely strung out on retweets and will never be able to kick the habit.
Isn't it literally part of journalists' jobs to cultivate a social media presence and drive traffic to the sites they write for? And it raises their profiles to other journalists and can lead to work. I think that's more of it than them being addicted to likes for dopamine hits.
I unironically pushed for that when he offered to buy it.

I think if there were local and federal gov't bluesky accounts, that would help the media migrate off of Twitter - disappointed that this hasn't happened sooner.
