Please excuse a non-nature post. This is happening now to bring awareness to Long Covid. I've been watching for half an hour and already learned a lot. Dianna Cowern is an incredible science Youtuber who's been in bed with Long Covid for almost two years. Hosted by Simone Giertz & others. 🧪

Featuring more invertebrate art from @liminalitea.bsky.social - I was very pleased with their imagining of Zlivalk the verbose slug-kaiju #InsertAnInvert2024
It's been a while since I posted any of my writing for #InsertAnInvert2024, but the "Subterranean" theme is perfect for "An Awaited Hero" - featuring a giant slug who's read too many Arthurian romances. www.patreon.com/posts/107629...

#Metoo ruined lives: the women’s. For the summer issue of Bookforum, I wrote about Christine Blasey Ford’s memoir “One Way Back,” the aftermath of disclosure, and what it means to be a public survivor when storytelling has proven futile. www.bookforum.com/culture/disp...

lmao I called my local coffeeshop to see if they were open today--my fave barista happened to pick up & she was like yep we're here and also we have almond lemon loaves left [one of my go-to pastries] truly if you want the benefits of being loved you must submit to the embarrassment of being known

In the early Twitter days science types would show up and post when they had a new paper. Wonderful! But real talk y'all: papers take ages to write. So, post about other people's stuff! You read a paper and it was cool! Or you had a question! Or it tied to this other thing! Tag the authors!
Science folks, one thing about bluesky is there's way less 2 way interaction between people, especially on science posts, than there was on old Twitter. I'm not sure why that is, but it's something I'm keen to encourage. I'd love to hear your thoughts 🧪

Why stick with a bald eagle when you can go with a patriotic marbled shrimp? Check out the stars and stripes on that tail! These shrimp have a wild variety of color and patterns, this one was pretty unique. Off Ulua beach a few years ago. (Saron marmoratus) 📷🌿🐙

Biding their time. At low tide, the voracious sea stars retreat to a wave-washed surge channel, but their high-tide ferocity is evident in the bare zone on the shore above them. 🌊⭐️🍽️ #MarineLife #Invertebrate 🦑🌿

This female Japanese shore crab in the Wadden Sea was busy releasing her babies into the water! You can see the tiny zoea larvae being released into the plankton where they will live for several weeks and many will be eaten. The few survivors settle on the bottom again.

Nature can be rather disturbing at times, but amazing too! Here are a couple of examples of entomopathogenic fungi I've seen across New Zealand - that's fungi which infect and kill invertebrates (yep, 'The Last of Us' style). Can you tell what the unfortunate hosts were? #Entomology 🧪

Yesterday, I shared this same Canada Day thread on Bluesky, Threads, and X. Here's what I found. 🧵
“Canada is such a northern country, don’t we want a little global warming?” I often hear. In a nutshell, NO. We’re warming 2x faster than the rest of the world, driving extreme heat, flood, and sea level rise we are not prepared for. The wildfire season started in Feb this year. Feb! #canadaday
