Today, July 8th, is the 24th anniversary of the infamous "Paddleboro" raid, in which Attleboro, Mass. police broke up a BDSM play party of consenting adults, and charged one attendee with "assault with a dangerous weapon" for paddling the other with a wooden spoon.

We're very saddened to hear about the passing of Jane McAlevey, a true legend in labor organizing. May her memory be a blessing. Her lessons certainly are.

Fly Me To The Moon: went in hopeful for a light, fizzy comedy with two charismatic leads exploiting a clever premise, got a lead balloon with bullet-point dialogue, an antagonist who doesn't seem to care about his own motivation, and a heart too cowardly to exploit its own cynicism. Too bad!

I am hard at work on the plans for Project 2031. Y’all not even gonna believe this shit. We are going to take over, and it will probably be bloodless, but I can’t necessarily say the same about piss

POSTAL BANKING is a great idea and it leads me to my other great idea: FEDERAL SANDWICH. Guaranteed access to a sandwich to anyone who wants one at ANY US Federal Govt facility. Let me explain. No, there is too much, let me sum up:
Postal banking FTW!

yes, we boiled the planet, but it was worth it to make a machine that, instead of adding two plus two, takes the statistical average of every answer to questions containing "what" "is" "two" and "plus" from a database of illegal cell phone transcripts and returns a fake nude pic of a high schooler

I am excited to see this mostly to ID the segments they shot in and around Cypress Park's Los Candiles years and years ago.
Axel Foley is back and even better. I haven’t seen such a good action comedy in a long time. It felt both, comforting and new, to watch the whole original cast and the new additions have fun playing their roles. Don’t miss out on Axel’s new LA adventure!! Rating: 9/10

if Yugoslavia is where your head is at, it's heartening to read about how the Otpor movement broke Milosevic's power. Mark and Paul Engler have a great chapter about it in This Is An Uprising, which they preview here:

My only experience of this is visiting Milosevic's Yugoslavia between the wars. So many people tried to impress this on me - everything was fine, until one day thugs who had government support were grabbing women off the street. It never left me, and I'm more worried than ever now.

It’s interesting to imagine what kind of Democratic Party would actually address itself to the political economy of police infrastructure. It’s not the one we have today, and it probably hinges on maintaining the salience of police funding through protest cycles and into mayoral elections.
And one more thing, being the political party that benefitted greatly from protests in response to Trump’s election and police brutality and then deciding to build a bunch of anti-protest training centers and moving forward with charging protesters as terrorists was stupid & even more so now.

If you live in CA, both Butler and Padilla are on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Make time to call today. Then set a reminder in your phone to call again later this week. Then tell three friends to do the same.
Another thing you can do is call Dick Durbin's office and demand he stand up for democracy and haul Alito and Thomas before the Senate Judiciary Committee. And publicly demand their resignations. If you can't literally impeach them, AT LEAST use the bully pulpit. 202-224-2152.

best rhetoric out of France since "I am René the French fighter pilot. when I go down, I go down in flames"
THE sentence of the day: A Macronist incumbent in the Marseille region came in 3rd in her seat. She just dropped out to support the left. She said, about why she's maneuvering to block the far-right: "Defeats happen, but you can never recover from dishonor."

allow me to recommend self-soothing by way of dedicating some time and money to the Movement Voter Project. They fund local organizing in support of federal races, meaning that unlike candidate campaigns, win or lose they build infrastructure that can carry on the fight.
