My last mayor, at the beginning of COVID and in the early lockdown, challenged people to spit in his mouth to show how safe it all was. He... was not re-elected.
Two mayors before that, we had a dude with a paternity scandal and some unfortunate comments about Africans stewing people in a cauldron. This city hates itself.
Anyhow, my mayor hasn't done anything that bad, but the county sheriff was disciplined and had to step down for a scandal involving unspecified members of the department make crude gestures with a banana towards a female coworker.
Coworkers weren't named, and the sheriff was not explicitly said not to be one of them.
The Sheriff was said to have interfered with an internal investigation on the matter.
He had a long history of other abuse, including question acquisition of properties at sheriffs auctions.
Dude tried to send a bill to the neighboring county, which basically met mask mandates with a shrug, for filling up the hospital in our city with patients and was told that's not how that works. He was not a good mayor.
lol, my mayor destroyed downtown in such a spectacular way that we now have a "historical landmark/museum" called The Giant Pit

Failings aside, the mall usually had functional public bathrooms. Now there's a challenge for, say, a parent with little kids. For someone without a place to sleep, same challenge, different solution. :(
If they'd stick some port-a-potties in the pit I might consider it even / equally charming...?
