No pretending, here. I remember what it was like to live in a rural area where only the USPS would go to the trouble of bringing packages right to your home. UPS & FedEx would mail you a card through the USPS and tell you to come to them to pick up the package.

Those third spaces weren't crammed with hostile architecture or advertisements & other distractions. And you didn't have to pay to be in them. There's so much pressure to connect with someone. It's such a huge investment of time, energy & money just to interact face-to-face with someone. (cont)

You have to be, like, "If I don't click with them after 3 dates, I have to move on. Anything beyond that is good money thrown after bad" Some young people ARE trying to fight this, but the older people seem Hell-bent on keeping things as they are.
