In the early Twitter days science types would show up and post when they had a new paper. Wonderful! But real talk y'all: papers take ages to write. So, post about other people's stuff! You read a paper and it was cool! Or you had a question! Or it tied to this other thing! Tag the authors!
Science folks, one thing about bluesky is there's way less 2 way interaction between people, especially on science posts, than there was on old Twitter. I'm not sure why that is, but it's something I'm keen to encourage. I'd love to hear your thoughts 🧪

I became a naturalized US citizen at the age of 16. We drove up from Gaithersburg to the courthouse in Baltimore, where I swore allegiance to the US of A along with about 100 others. I voted for Carter in 1976 and have voted D in every election. Not voting feels like a violation of my oath.

(1/?) “It would be naïve to depend on the Supreme Court to defend the rights of poor people, women, people of color, dissenters of all kinds. Those rights only come alive when citizens organize, protest, demonstrate, strike, boycott, rebel, and violate the law in order to uphold justice.”

I wrote this before the Imperial Court issued its diktats, but I could see what was coming. If we want January 6th recognized for the crime it is, if we want to punish the perpetrator of that crime, we need our best to make the case against him. www.damemagazine.com/2024/05/07/t...
"As [Harris] breaks down the weak defenses of the January 6th Insurrection, she can build upon her boss’s restraint, discipline, deference, and adherence to the rule of law—and, tacitly, her own."

Can we stop calling the six "conservative" justices? They are anything but. Rightfully call them "GOP" justices or "right'wing activist" justices.

And that’s just what we know from media investigations. The Supreme Court of today is fully an arm of the Republican Party, and the only remedy in our hands is an electoral defeat for that party. All the alarm bells are ringing. The time is now.

To reiterate what @kenwhite.bsky.social has been saying for a long time... the courts are not going to get us out of this mess. We have to do it at the ballot box.

Half the samples of bulk raw milk headed for pasteurization in states with bird flu in diary herds tested positive. 👏25% of those samples contained infectious virus👏 Flash pasteurization fully destroys viral infectivity. Raw milk needs to end yesterday.
New test results released by the FDA found that bird flu virus is making its way from dairy farms and into milk processing plants but also confirmed that the commonly used flash pasteurization method fully neutralizes the virus.

What to do about Joe Biden? I will pound the pavement and knock on doors to support the Dem candidate, who happens to be Joe Biden. We all need to get behind and push in the same direction. All this talk about replacing Joe seems counter-productive at this point.

In new experiments, scientists have given bird flu to cows and watched what happens. The results indicate the virus isn't spreading in droplets infecting airways. For those worried about the evolution of a new pandemic, that's good news--for now. Here's my story. 🧪 Gift link: nyti.ms/3RNOYhX

Where are all the comments about Trump obviously showing that he's not grounded in reality? That he's a mean, petty tyrant? A vigorous, mean, petty tyrant divorced from reality?

But what gives fossil fuel propaganda its power over climate politics is that it’s repeated, in echoes and fragments and sometimes in its entirety, by people on both sides of the supposedly partisan climate change divide — [continued in next reply]

If there were one piece of advice which I would give to a young person that I think is applicable to every career (and other parts of life) it would be: You have to say what you want, out loud. No one can see inside your head. If you want to do a job or get into an area, you need to say so.

Some reduce the 2024 campaign to a contest between two old men, but it's a choice of two slates of federal appointees who'll impact your life in a million ways. Biden has staffed executive agencies with excellent choices who are doing good work. Trump will empower an army of Stephen Millers.
Under current law, you really couldn’t do much better than Biden’s FTC and NRLB. New Deal shit.
