Hi. I was away for a week. Hope everyone is doing well. There are people who believe the reasons for my absence are shameful and disqualifying for full participation on public life. Those people can snort my taint. If you need help, get help. Don’t wait to be in crisis. You can feel better. /1

I like the pun I made of an art house/action mash-up so much, I’m reposting it here without any more context.

Kamala should pick Tim Walz just for the curiosity of having the biggest possible apparent age gap of any Presidential ticket composed of two people who are the exact same age.

my sense is that people's memory of IN THE LOOP doesn't match the film. They're so delighted by Capaldi's cruelty that they don't quite get that it's at its core about what a lacky he and the brits are to the usa. His Tucker is vulgar and loud and funny, but so what? letterboxd.com/medievalkarl...
Review of ‘In the Loop’ (2009) ★★★½letterboxd.com because everyone's watching VEEP, for obvious reasons, I wanted to go back to the source -- although I suppose I could go back even further and try IN THE THICK OF IT? What people remember about…

The other day my barber, a 35ish Hispanic guy, said "ya I wasn't really woke until like 2018" and I was like "oh cool this guy has good politics?" and then finished the sentence with "when I started watching all these videos about 9/11 on YouTube" Anyway, that guy's the median voter in 2024.

been thinking about who the 'target voter' is and how absolutely 'low information' most voters are. Presuming campaigns are trying to reach [x family member], who blames Biden for the student loan forgiveness snafu. Basically: what's the lit on the mental competence of swing voters?
I just had the most horrible thought, and since it's such a stupid thing possible, it's got to happen on some level -- a "draft Hillary" movement.

i remain convinced that everyone in america would watch simone biles try fencing and then prepare her famous Healthy Pasta Bake
i still think each country should get only 24 athletes for the olympics and they should all live in a big house, play three sports a day, with their nights for their choice of a makeover show or a cooking competition.

Library funding has been restored—all good news, but it's hard to feel particularly thrilled about a resolution to a series of cuts that closed library doors and got rid of compost sites, one that ultimately felt a bit like smoke and mirrors.

Feel I made the right choice last night by seeing KINDS OF KINDNESS instead of the debate. Agonizing, nauseating, and Jennie just about yanked me out of the theater as soon as the credits started, and yet.

My maximalist position is that it's impossible to split an infinitive because "to" is not part of the infinitive form, as shown by modal verbs (can, must, should, etc.).

got mine yesterday, used from B & H, and [um] pirated a bunch of books I already have physical copies to load onto it (seriously) (because my goal is to limit the # of books I buy until I read a good chunk of what I already own) (not easy). Anyway, it's a great gadget so far.

2nd refresher in driving before norway trip. Some conversational snippets. Discipulus: no need to hurry, we're all going to the same place. Magister: ha, to the grave! --- D: why's he waving that red flag?* M: because you just won the race for slowest driver. * [guy actually working for a car wash]

I'd stopped listening to Duran Duran around 1986, so the first time I heard this song was them doing it live last summer in Forest Hills Stadium, and it was my earworm for a good month after. Is it The Chauffeur? nah, but it's pretty great.

The score for UNDER PARIS should start with John Williams' JAWS theme: 🎶 Dun...dun. Dun...dun. Dun-dun, dun-dun, dun-dun- 🎶 Then segue into the Marseillaise 🎶 Dun, dun, de-dun-dun-dun-dun-DUNN-de-dun 🎶

street crime 1/ this is the bus stop on the north side of W. 23rd at 7 Av, at 2:46 today some time ago it was moved well from 7th Ave. for an endless construction project that is not about the street itself or the bus lane adding insult to injury, as with virtually every so-called “bus stop”..
