The United States has always been a democracy for some and a brutal authoritarian regime for others, and the effort to expand it to democracy for all has led to a 70+ year backlash culminating in SCOTUS claiming that kings are totes cool and also judges are the ones to coronate them

Yeah Biden is simply not up for this moment in history.

Biden has until the conclusion of his remarks that begin at 6:45 CST tonight to convince me that he’s up to meeting this moment he finds himself in as president. “We just have to vote harder!” and “Donate to Act Blue!” and “The system can still work!” are, point blank, insufficient.

Nailed it in one.

Prediction: Biden will burp out some “rah rah I have faith in the system” nonsense, the centrists will rediscover that they think “oh hey, everything is fine, actually” and we’ll all keep merrily marching along towards destruction

We need to see the Supreme Court’s disastrous rulings in the context of the Right’s larger project to uphold traditional hierarchies of race, wealth/class, gender, and religion - all part of the attempt to halt the drive towards egalitarian, multiracial, pluralistic democracy.
