Perfect Times lead. Open with a reactionary exulting over an abstract principle that will hurt other people (and would have with a minor change of circumstance hurt her). Then cut to the real person suffering real harm as if they are equivalent.

FYI bsky.app/profile/katz...
From a 2021 story in Jackson, MS: "Brumfield now heads up the Birmingham chapter of Bound4Life international, which is the group that organized Wednesday’s prayer meeting outside the state’s only abortion clinic." Nowhere is that mentioned in Medina's article.

I loved the one about a "divisive America" causing families to move to new states and one was like "joe brandon made me wear a mask once" and the other was "our trans child was almost bullied to death"
Avatar
Correction, *was* bullied to death (recently).
Avatar
It also does the very NYT thing where the conservative in the story is an anti-abortion operative, which somehow doesn’t bear mentioning.

No one asked her: "Do you understand that you've fucked everyone in your state's chances at having IVF in state? Are you just that a selfish an asshole?"
Avatar
The thing with capital-C Xtians who want to use the law to force the rest of the world to conform to their bigoted, delusional, science-illiterate beliefs, is that they do so utterly convinced of their own righteousness.

“Fuck you, already got mine” is a feature, not a bug for these people

www.dallasnews.com/news/politic... Abbot is the similar in texas: He collected on the accident where a tree limb fell on him while jogging - around 9mil in settlements. Then votes to eliminate the way he collected after going into politics.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has received final payment from accident lawsuitwww.dallasnews.com The gubernatorial candidate released his 1986 lawsuit settlement over the accident.

She doesn't care. It's a selfish ideology that will eternally justify itself.
Avatar
Of course not, but it's still good to get them on record.

I’d also like to know if Natalie still has any embryos on ice or did she use them all? If she has any left, what does she plan to do with them?
Avatar
A journalist would have asked this obvious question
Avatar
"Oh, I had them throw those out years ago!"
Avatar
Avatar
Ah yes my favourite Bible verse “Life begins when Intracytoplasmic sperm injection into cytoplasm of egg in a glass tube is successful”
Avatar
...or not successful? Where is the jurisprudence on this?
Avatar
Wait until the first woman is prosecuted for not using all the embryos
Avatar
And frankly she should be. Live your truth, bitch.
Avatar
Oh its worse than that. They often implant more than one at a time then cull the embryos that don’t make it. She very well had a few embryos aborted having her two kids
Avatar
Sounds like a murderer to me. Lock her up.
Avatar
FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK This is a good point, yo'.
Avatar
I’m obviously not being serious, but I do wish these people would have to live the consequences of their loosely held beliefs they insist on inflicting on others
Avatar
Yes. I know a couple who had both of their children via IVF. They aborted some of the “babies” in both instances. AND in the case of the second child, they gender selected because they only wanted a daughter. I honestly don’t know how they vote, but both of their families are very conservative/maga.
Avatar
Prosecute the families for aiding them
Avatar
Their families did literally aid them. IVF ain’t cheap. I know their families provided some of the money for the treatments and procedures.
Avatar
That'll never happen, because she's on the inside track and these cases are always about weaponizing DAs against the out group.
Avatar
Also typical that the NYT does not correct the person not understanding how the Alabama ruling would have prevented Eloise from being born.
Avatar
So what did you do with the rest of your "extrauterine children" after your successful IVF, Natalie? Hmmm?
Avatar
Look I don’t know her exact circumstances but if she went through IVF twice, seems unlikely she only ever created two embryos. Wonder what happened to the other ones
Avatar
If she had two children via IVF then she "murdered" 12 to 18 "babies". What a fucking hypocrite.
Avatar
Amazing the reporter didn’t even appear to ask about the first woman’s other embryos. A complete failure as a journalist.
Avatar
If you won't like the answer, be careful not to ask the question, I guess. They're very carefully writing their own narrative, can't have anything go outside that careful set of lines.
Avatar
Also she is so bad at thinking that she doesn't realize this law will force IVF clinics like the ones she went to to close their doors. Conservatives just do not consider consequences because Jesus
Avatar
She doesn’t give a fuck, she already got her test-tube babies. FYGM in full effect.
Avatar
I doubt the Times bothered to ask what she did with the spare embryos from her own procedures
Avatar
You can’t expect a stenographer to do journalism!
Avatar
Also, according to her own definition, Ms. Brumfield is a murderer. Impossible to do IVF without creating and disposing of embryonic tissue.
Avatar
Did they ask Natalie why she wishes she didn't have the 2, or what she thinks should be done w/ all the existing embryos....sorry "babies"?
Avatar
I NEVER THOUGHT THE LEOPARDS WOULD EAT MY FACE
Avatar
Avatar
I'm curious about where Brumfield got IVF and what happened to any embryos left over after her 2 children were born. As to whether the Times even mentions up those 2 details
Avatar
The View From Nowhere just can't help giving the fascist top billing, then spilling a gallon of ink trying to rationalize a purely ideological crusade.
Avatar
*...after learning that the Government decided she and her husband could not have a child.
Avatar
The whole "you don't have a right for your own medical freedom/treatments" to also "banning fluoride in public water for a county because of medical freedom" 😵‍💫
Avatar
Avatar
Someone needs to explain to me why people “as Christians” begins at embryonic stage. I read the Bible and Christ never talked about that. Not even a little bit.
Avatar
I don’t have an answer to this question, but most religious anti-abortion groups actually believe life begins at conception, with the formation of the zygote, well before an embryo has formed
