“If they can convict a president for breaking the law, they can convict anybody!”
Right, that’s the whole point.
Our laws actually apply to everyone.
Congrats on just now figuring out how that works.
Maybe if the US didn't make it a four-year process to pick one, they'd be less bothered about tossing out and replacing the bad ones when they're actually in office.
Wait. Do you mean to say I could be arrested, indicted, tried, and convicted by a jury just for doing crimes? Me??
Well that certainly puts a new spin on things.
Yeah, like, I already knew they could and would prosecute me. I’ve been waiting to find out if the law would apply even approximately equally to people like Trump.
They've been saying this about everything happening to Trump since the first investigation. "If the FBI can raid Trump's home, they'll do it to you!" Just a baffling argument.
Even Elon Musk is saying this.
Of course the reason he's saying this is because he's being actively investigated by the SEC and he's a fucking crybaby.
I think we are back to the anti-fed govt rhetoric of the late 90s/early 2000s (Jack booted thugs) but white collar. There is a whole industry to this. See bsky.app/profile/ctsc...
I enjoy the schadenfreude as much as the next guy here, but I'm also reminded of how old I was when I learned that equal application of the law hasn't really been how it works
I think the reason they're mad is that they know it's been unequal and they don't want it changing
