Wow, this is really good! I just bought the audiobook (read by Eric Jason Martin, a real narrator whose voice I like), and it's riveting.

Pipe wrenches, reflective vests and clip boards. Those data centers must shut down without water cooling. Locking out a water customer (especially one that’s paying fractions of a cent per quantity compared to what regular users are using) is trivial.

This is what I don’t get: why can’t these centers just cool and reuse a fixed amount of water?

Right?? I have no idea. It’s not like radiators are a new or expensive technology, and heat pumps are incredibly efficient at moving heat out. Hell, they could use the heat the chips create to generate at least part of their cooling. So I assume it’s just typical tech do it cheap & never fix.
