Public university trustees are often appointed by the governor. Red states are anti-education so they appoint people who hate education or want to privatize it. We have to vote them out.

That's true and a serious problem. Fortunately, in this particular case, Penn is private. I haven't looked at it bylaws, but I assume the other trustees can kick him out, by either majority or unanimous vote.

That's the opening ask, of course. But realistically we may need to settle for a soft cap on the number of stupid motherfuckers appointed as trustees.

At least in Wisconsin it is a feature, not a bug. Our disgraced former gov, Shart Wanker, converted university trusteeship from our best and brightest who want the university system to succeed into politically-motivated ghouls intended to impair the function of the university for partisan purposes.
