NEW: I reached out to all 22 Democrats who voted to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib to see if they'd take action against GOP Rep. Tim Walberg for implying we should nuke Gaza. Only three replied. My report:
Dems who censured Rep. Tlaib over Palestine comments largely silent on GOP Rep's call for nukeswww.thehandbasket.co It's telling who does—and does not—get the benefit of the doubt

Dems - always striving to be on brand - worse than useless.

This isn't really a Dem thing, to be fair - that's why there are only 22 of them and not 200
Avatar
I made a mistake. I mean - why don't do the equivalent? Each one of them talks to the media and speaks about how evil that guy is.

I have no idea. I'm not well versed in the ins and outs of Congressional procedures like censure. I would assume it has to do with lacking control of the House, but I don't know.
Avatar
> lacking control of the House Yes. You got me. I made a mistake about censure. But I think the dems are still capable of standing in a hallway, opening their mouth, saying "That GOP turd is an evil shmuck," to a reporter. They can (I mean COULD) do that, right? In fancy but censorious language.
Avatar
I think they mostly do that too, but yes, I'm all for people calling out elected leaders who openly call for genocides

God forbid you ever hike them accountable. Grow a spine.
Avatar
The thing about holding people accountable for their actions is that it works best if you do it to the ones who actually do the action - e.g. the 22 jerks profiled here You are free to hold other people accountable for this action too if you like, it just doesn't make any sense at all to anyone

Well done Marisa, and not at all surprising show of spineless and clueless centrists in the Dem ranks. Sadly, the quality of your reporting reflects just how poorly our reps understand the current day, genocidal repeat of Nakba, Operation Cast Lead (2008) and Operation Protective Edge (2014).
Avatar
thanks for reading. i'm just blown away by the fact that they refuse to put even the most recent history in context.

After 10/7 I did a deep dive on Palestinian history and this current iteration is an exact repeat of those two operations. And the aftermath reports - using IDF soldiers own testimonies - are fucking chilling.
Avatar
I'm torn between kinda happy my rep (Landsman) actually replied, and remembering how pissed off I am that he's on that list in the first damned place

not even a remotely hard question

"hey can you hold your political opponents to the same standard for this really bad thing that you held your own party member to for a fake bad thing?" 🤷🤷🤷🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗

But the established majority status quo Democratic Party legislators need to fight the minority of young progressive Democratic socialists because… something something communism something extremism something…

This is good political journalism, thanks for doing this

Of course not, it is way more comfy to attack a woman from a marginalized group, than a straight white CIS gendered PASTOR. Even though his ilk are the problem, full stop.
Avatar
With Dems like these, who needs the GOP?
Avatar
I am really tired of Dems acting like lifeless lap dogs.
Avatar
just have to refer to them all as Islamophobic and anti-arabic bigots at every opportunity there's no other possible explanation for their actions. War on terror maniacs.
Avatar
Remember when AOC was mad about “big tent” dems allowing any spineless piece of shit into the party and everyone told her to shut the fuck up?
Avatar
You may say that, but being in the minority in the House is a paycheck with absolutely no work to do. However you get to a majority, it's worth it.
Avatar
Totes. Look at the wonders Manchin and Sinema bestowed upon us.
Avatar
Most senators are always going to support the filibuster, as it's the only way for the minority to contribute to government. I think it's appalling that a one off workaround for voting reform wasn't found, but that's how it is for now.
Avatar
Should Republicans capture the Senate this cycle, there won't be a single Democrat opposing the filibuster.
Avatar
Not what I’m talking about.
Avatar
22 idiots. They may not be as out lunatic as Republicans, but "centrist" Democrats are the most mendacious, venal, and gullible people in politics.
Avatar
Your work is so important and much appreciated

This is great reporting, thanks!

I'm not hearing anything on this from my MI congress people at all, although I may have missed it since they aren't on Blsky, and I rarely spend time on hellsite. It's a perfect opportunity to frame the MIGOP as war-crazed chisto-fascist lunatics, but instead, crickets.

Democrats? Sounds more like a bunch of assholes.

This is a first rate article. Argumentatively, politicians (and the Public) love making moral judgements without establishing criteria for understanding the Framework of decision making. It Leads to this kind of hypocrisy
Avatar
Democrats stay being paid shills for their own wallets.
Avatar
I love when hypocrisy gets called out

They also voted for a really corny, possibly dangerous, bill. 😞 yadontknow.blogspot.com/2023/11/be-i...

« Tlaib... was censured for supposedly “promoting false narratives” the October 7th Hamas terrorist attack » I think you left a word out.

I shared this on Facebook yesterday and today it was removed citing "cybersecurity" and stating that "It looks like you tried to gather sensitive information, or shared malicious software." 🙃 I'm appealing the decision but we know how FB is.

Great work! Just finished reading it and it's honestly embarrassing how spineless those officials have been.
