It’s bewildering; you got what you wanted, they conceded! If you don’t let up afterwards, the only lesson people will learn is to Never Back Down

Biden's mental acuity completely aside, any time I see stories about "elite Democratic donors" that include people like "Disney heiresses" talking to the press to get their way my immediate reaction is to think "fuck those people, how can I help ruin their plans"

the whole Thief/Rogue fantasy archetype spins out from Gandalf trying to get Bilbo to sneak into Smaug's place. If he had wanted Bilbo to install a mini-split in the cave, one of the basic D&D classes today would be HVAC guy

Worth noting that one reason Venezuela imploded as a society is that the government purged the state oil company of technocrats and replaced them with regime cronies who had no idea how the oil industry worked and it caused the whole thing to cave in and with it, Venezuela’s economy.

Kendrick Lamar teaches us that, in public debate, refuting your opponent's arguments point by point is less effective than identifying your opponent's single greatest weakness and maintaining message discipline.

You can say that you’re tired of being told this is The Most Important Election Of Our Lives, but the reality is that preventing a coup is going to take overwhelming numbers of votes for the foreseeable future and if you aren’t willing to vote all the time you have to be ready for The Consequences.

In addition to the basic human rights violations, I think it is morally repugnant to operate a business that relies on incarcerated labor, and any business that does should be boycotted
There shouldn't be a big "unless they are incarcerated" asterisk to the ban on slavery in the US. Incarcerated individuals should be paid for their work. The current practice is a moral abomination, it sets people up for failure upon release, and it undercuts labor. www.nytimes.com/2024/06/19/o...

That rumbling sound you hear in the distance is every single historian on this planet screaming.
The court's new hyper-literal originalism is producing a weird jurisprudence in which some cases turn on two competing, highly subjective, highly-distilled, multi-century historical narratives. The narrative that gets 5 votes then becomes "Official U.S. History" for every similar case that follows.
Amy Coney Barrett Sounds Fed Up With Clarence Thomas’ Sloppy Originalismslate.com In a trademark case, Barrett agreed with Thomas’ bottom line but sharply disagreed with pretty much everything else.

Please, please, please, do not re-use passwords. Use a password manager or just write them in a little book if you have to. Almost anything is better than re-use.

The most frustrating part of it is that we've just watched the Right use incrementalism as a ratchet to effectively dismantle the Great Society and administrative state, but have still drawn the conclusion that it won't work Nations are not speedboats, they are tankers. They take time to turn!
