I'm forgetful and find the require alt text before posting setting useful. I think I am partially responsible for it's existence You're right, alt is best editable, and I am working on tools to make writing it easier, this one is very much a stalled by brain cancer work in progress my.alt-text.org

Can you explain why you've put alt text in scare quotes? Also, do you know the history of alt text? It's really interesting! I wrote a thread.

The history of alt text goes back to 1993. The alt attribute was introduced for HTML 1.2 to be used for text-based browsers, which load faster by not loading most of the graphic content. This was a big deal when bandwidth connections were super limited.

Just a heads up that putting a web address on the alt text just means someone using a screen reader is stuck listening to a web address being read out. Alt text is for image descriptions and is an accessibility tool 💜

We also can't click on the link... So get it read to us without being able to do anything with that information. But hey! It's "alt text", scare quotes absolutely needed /s. And AI will solve it or something. Fuck that noise =_=
