The NYT laying off half it’s art dept as they ramp up the use of A.I. tools is 100% related to UArts closing due to a “steep drop in enrollment.” Regardless of A.I.’s actual capabilities the story being told to (and accepted by) business leaders is damaging the perceived value of the visual arts.

Watching 'The 8 Show' & boy what a WILD commentary on capitalism & inequality!! Billed as a dark comedy, began fairly light, but ngl eps 5/6 are hard to watch (violence). Very Squid Game-y. Thinly veiled analogies re: hierarchies, labor, poverty, wealth, etc. Interested to see how it ends. 😮 #kdrama

Current estimates say that every prompt you give a generative "AI" system— not each session, every PROMPT— is like pouring a 16 oz bottle of water onto the ground. This is a fact that goes somewhere in every talk i give, now, & i always see audience members looking it up… and then looking horrified

Annoyed by articles that go into great detail about what companies say they're doing with so-called "A.I." but do not ask what companies are doing about the technology's ecological impact.
