There’s complaining and then there’s “everything is fucked this is hopeless”
I know people are worried and telling people everything is hopeless may help us vent but it can have very real social consequences
I am a divorced parent with a demanding job and I’m in grad school. I still find time (ha) to show up to meetings and do voter outreach and I’m exhausted, so I guess I have too strong a visceral reaction when I see people say we’re doomed and I know for a fact they’ve tried nothing
Also, I’m not sure it’s not changing things. I think this is a very boomer ideal.
Nowadays we are seeing revolutions caused through online organization. And ones that don’t hinge on minorities being body shields. Maybe America is due.
Mob mentality is scary, but it’s also a relic from a time before mobs could fact check and bifurcate at the speed of thought.
I keep thinking about 2020 or the Pro Palestinian protests and change that is slowly being enacted because of online complaining.
The thing that gives me the most comfort is that the fact that online is becoming more powerful, they want to ban people from talking on it.
So be angry. And be loud.
One truth is that people “complaining online” about their lived experience has changed a lot.
People being introduced to how different life is marginalized and minoritized people has changed attitudes, quickly (historically).
Another truth is that those whose attitudes are changing need to act
