Here I was thinking the Civil War Part 2 would be a result of 30% of the country trying to violently tear down democracy. But the irony is that we'll need to do a civil war to preserve it for the other 70%.

I've largely just come to believe post-wwii America and western's have collective self-delusion that things will "work out" (because tbh live is still pretty comfortable for most)but are also fin de siècle pessimistic.
