This is a dramatic upside to a Harris presidency that I hadn't thought of: mass revocation of birthright citizenship (and the mass expulsion and/or murder of the following generations as their citizenship is revoked in turn) is less likely with a birthright citizen President than even another Dem.
it's so scary. if Trump wins, first gens like me will be stripped of citizenship. ...and even if he doesn't win, 60% chance dems adopt this POV in the next 5 years

Don’t talk too loudly about Democrats increasing funding for cops, it helps Trump! Don’t talk too loudly about Biden bankrolling a genocide, it helps Trump! Don’t talk too loudly about the man y’all say will protect us from Trump being too incapacitated to protect us from Trump, it helps Trump!

Show this to everyone who’s like “But THEY don’t belong in my Eurofantasy construct!!1!” African red-slip pottery was excavated from medieval digs in Europe decades ago. Now we have more evidence of even broader trade networks. Our species likes hanging out with new people and trying new things.

If they do put Kamala Harris on the top of the ticket, I am prepared for a level of misogynoir unwitnessed since Rosa Parks sat down on that bus.

Rwanda took 240 million pounds from the Uk and that ghoul Braverman to take refugees and at the end got the money and will take no refugees. Well played, Rwanda, and also a wonderful example of how conservatives manage money while fucking citizens over with "austerity" and "spending cuts"

bad luck for biden to run in an electoral cycle where "are you old" is the most important issue instead of in one of the cycles where email security procedures or accuracy of vietnam war medal citations was the most important issue in the country.

Maybe it's time that the @nytimes.com should step aside for a younger, fitter, more coherent newspaper.

All of the people indulging in these fantasy Democratic primary scenarios think that people vote reflexively because it’s what they themselves do; they don’t realize that turnout is a product of hard work. Unseen, unheralded work. By unseen, unheralded people.
I don’t know why they think pissing off the door-knockers and canvassing power of the party will end well, but these people don’t understand what they refuse to see

NYT says their performance on Threads today was an aberration, & not indicative of deeper problems they've had with social media. Unfortunately, that hasn't satisfied many observers whose concerns are growing louder. The stakes are too high. For the good of the news, the Times should step aside

I really don’t think most people realize just how hard the boot will come down if Trump and the Republicans win the election. Most people have never experienced the totalitarian surveillance state with the power to reach into their homes and minds at will they are telling us is their plan.

France out here proving that actually you can tell the far right to go to hell even when it looks like they’re on track for a big victory are we going to let ourselves be shown up by the French?
French exit poll news and which seems a good sign

It's interesting how the media often characterizes prominent anti-trans folks in England as "feminist," because "feminist" is viewed more positively in the UK than in the US. In contrast, transphobic writers in the States, making the same arguments, would be horrified to be labeled "feminist."
Reminder that this woman has no medical expertise, no expertise on trans people and as far as I know, no qualifications in counselling

And the fact that the piece didn't even mention that northern Idaho has been regarded as a haven for neo-Nazis and white supremacists since the Aryan Nations set up shop there in the 1970s is just a gobsmacking omission.
I know they get rolled all the time but for the Times to get rolled by “actually they just want to reclaim the values of Western civilization as they see it … with larger families and fewer immigrants” is the Times putting the 14 words in the paper

I think about this quote from Audrey Watters' Teaching Machines a lot: "With the students of Harlem as his test subjects, [B. F.] Skinner could rescue them from a failing system and as an ed-tech savior, he could then convince the rest of the world of the effectiveness of his teaching machines."

One of the least nuanced assumptions in US political discourse is that folks who have served or are related to people who have served are patriotic or pro-military. The collective memory and personal experiences of Black, indigenous, and other vets of color makes that way more complicated.

As the daughter of a Black Vietnam vet who suffered life long pain from a service related injury but was constantly turned away from care by the VA I can’t even bring myself to read this. My father eventually died of a treatable condition at 62 b/c he was sent home to take ibuprofen by a VA doc.
A 2017 internal Veterans Affairs report shows Black veterans were more often denied benefits for PTSD than their white counterparts. The analysis crunched claims data from fiscal year 2011 through 2016. And disparate treatment started after WWI when it was still called shell shock. It continues.

8 years ago today Philando Castile was murdered. The criminal legal system failed to convict the cop who shot him despite the recorded evidence. We had to watch that video live just 24 hours after we watched cops shoot Alton Sterling in the back. (The video does not play at link)

Does this mean that talking about it has poisoned the branding?
Stephen Miller now following Trump's lead and saying he has nothing to do with Project 2025. 1. His organization is on the Project 2025 advisory board. 2. He recorded a video as part of Project 2025 training tools 3. You can see Mandate for Leadership, the Project 2025 publication in the background

Friendly reminder that you should all actively boycott the NYT now
This is all the article says about Trump's actual actions: "Many felonies — like Mr. Trump’s and Hunter Biden’s as well — amount to lying on official paperwork." So entirely avoiding the intent to violate election law and getting in a "both-sides-do-it" at the same time. The NYT remains trash.

My guess is that Trump knows very little about P25 *and* it will be the blueprint for his administration. He’s famously bored by policy. He’ll appoint these people because they’re loyal. They’ll then go to work on the plan while he grifts, golfs, and gives two-hour speeches at rallies.
Trump: I don't know anything about Project 2025 Here is a list of all the Trump officials who authored the Project 2025 blueprint, Mandate for Leadership. 25 of 36 were part of the Trump administration. project2025istheocracy.substack.com/p/project-20...

Since this point keeps getting missed: the SCOTUS ruling wasn’t just about immunity; they ruled that *evidence* from his time in the White House may be inadmissible. The ruling potentially affects every case against him, state and federal, regardless of when the criminal act itself occurred.
if stealing classified docs and lying about it while no longer in office is an "official act", we are well and truly cooked
