Yeah it fucking sucks getting this shit from people, especially on here from people who’re all “I’m SO RADICAL NO ONE REPRESENTS ME”. Fucking faux-revolutionary motherfuckers.
like, there is something I just so deeply do not get about people who claim they are on the left but are also anti-immigrant
just one of the most bewildering (and honestly infuriating) things
This is also an example of people being deranged about the economy. Lots of people want to come here because things are, factually, better than they are in many other places! America can be improved, but it is a good place to live for most people by most metrics.
There's been anti-immigration sentiment in the American Left forever. Some is based on "they're taking out jobs/crossing picket lines", some is straight up racism.
Sort of. I’m old. The left of my parents’ and my 20’s was very pro-immigrant. That said I see where many in the newer Left say mostly the right sjw stuff but live a NIMBY life.
It goes back farther than either of us were born, unless you're 250 years old. I'm not claiming there was a unified anti-immigrant stance among leftists at any point in time, but there have always been some who saw immigration as a threat.
This was one of the things that made me hate that fucker as I did some real digging back during his first campaign. Couldn't fucking stand Hillary and almost got snowed by the Bernster. Then a buddy of mine who said shit didn't smell right told me to keep digging.
He was right.
I'm 76. 3 of my 4 grandparents were immigrants. I've always viewed immigrants as a net-positive in every respect- though I'm occasionally impatient when language interferes, but that's on me. 🤷♂️
We also do have health care (just not the same system as everywhere else) and wages are some of the highest in the world here.
But other than that . . .
Yeah, just objectively, the United States is a highly desirable destination for immigrants. It's not perfect, but it is a good place to live. That's why lots of people want to live here!
