the 80s had a high density of celebrities whose authenticity was hard to figure out, as a kid. like, was Mr. T a real guy? he was like that in shows/movies but also in interviews? or pee wee, elvira, max headroom, various wrestlers. even alf was on celebrity squares. it was a confusing time.

And this is how fascism wins. It convinces moderates to stop using the correct language to name what our enemy is and make no mistake. Trump and the Republicans are a fascist anti-democratic enemy to every real American who believes in the Constitution and rule of law. Do not stay silent.

I wish English had some case/tense/whatever to show aspiration rather than declaration, so you could say something like “This is not who we are” or “There’s no place for this” without inviting an “um, actually…” “This should ideally not be who we should ideally be” doesn’t have the same ring to it

The NBC reporter also talked to a rally attendee who identified himself as an OB-GYN, so sympathies to people finding out on live TV that their gynecologist supports the guy from the Access Hollywood tape

So far it looks like a guy brought a semi-auto rifle in a public place in an open-carry state, and was stopped by a good guy with a gun, with “only” one bystander killed. This is the world the GOP wants for the rest of us, but they’ll cry foul for weeks (or worse) because their guy got grazed.

I am very mad at everyone who is doing this thing that I have not seen anyone doing but I imagine some people must be doing somewhere

People really need to remember that the MAGA cultists are not 50% of the country.

Ok but that’s like maybe 30% of the country, so maybe still worth a shot to tell the rest what’s up.

T-shirt aside she came across as nice, positive. Asked the reporter if she’d ever been to a Trump rally, how it made her feel, as if she was just talking to a friend, like she was expecting a reporter to say it was awesome. How do you follow Trump the last 8 years and come out like that?

As a staunch opponent of political violence, I greatly prefer when national leaders respond to it by condemning violence and expressing concern for victims (image 1) rather than encouraging violence and laughing at victims (image 2).

The theory is that by wrecking the 2024 election, they can throw the choice of President to house delegations where the Republican is certain to prevail. This is insurrection, a coup and needs to actually be dealt with as such. If your plan is to sue them and win, you've already lost.
