The corporate storytelling gods have decided that nostalgia is the idea we should worship.

This isn’t particularly revelatory but as someone who doesn’t often rewatch old movies the sheer number of remakes, reboots, sequels that are the same movie but now part X, and so on and so forth is really good for getting me back into books.

Hey, so. I understand that this is anecdotal and not research, but. It is WILD how useless social media has become for promo. It's a fucking disgrace, really.

yes, we boiled the planet, but it was worth it to make a machine that, instead of adding two plus two, takes the statistical average of every answer to questions containing "what" "is" "two" and "plus" from a database of illegal cell phone transcripts and returns a fake nude pic of a high schooler

One unexpected fun thing about being #HoH is that my dog, who is mostly a lazy dummy and not a service dog, has really stepped up to let me know when someone at the door or when a car is coming around a corner or things like that.

The Democrats inability to do literally anything more substantial than a sharply worded rebuke in the face of the systemic dismantling of democracy is astounding.

These corruptions build up - the graft, the double standards, the gaslighting, the self-dealing. After a while they not only cripple the institutions and the ability of those institutions to recover but also, ultimately, faith that those institutions are worth recovering. That’s where this goes.

I think the last good tech story was the people of Philadelphia murdering Hitchbot and leaving his body as a warning for other robots

This is a power grab by the court. It removes decision making authority from regulatory agencies like the EPA or FCC (and Congress) in favor of the courts and, ultimately, the Supreme Court. arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...

I think the reason Philip K Dick is still the predominant SF writer of the last century is, he was the only one who foresaw a future where everything would be boring, inconvenient and dehumanising, and where the only way you can win is to somehow refuse to give up your humanity.

This hand wringing is funny. As if a modern political party machine had ever, or could ever, make an organized, radical, fast, unprecedented, successful change of direction. Slow motion train wrecks though, we’ve got that down pat.

One thing about the Trump trial that’s striking to me is that it’s a rare time that a powerful person wasn’t able to buy, influence, or dodge the system. He had to go through the same tedious bullshit we do - and it worked. We need more of that.

I've held a few different roles as an editor and creative director in comics over the years and it continues to amaze me how some writers and artists hobble their own careers.

Comics social media breeds a particular type of behavior where it seems normal to pick sides and wage war without nuance or empathy. Where things are neatly absolute and the entirety of person can be summed up by a single action.

The proliferation of sports betting ads/apps/culture is the worst thing to happen to sports in decades. That and the Devils lack of goaltending.

The PWHL really needs to get more unique team identities. The same uniform design, varied only by the city name and color, for all teams is weird and boring.

I know the counterculture origin of the spelling “comix” but, I don’t know, it really feels like it’s just trying too much and putting itself in a box at the same time. This is also a pretty useless thing for me to think about but sometimes that’s just how it goes.
