Fucking hell. The trauma some of the folks at the rally just experienced is dreadful and no human should have to experience that. But somehow humanity always gets lost in modern society due to politics.

The fourth largest city in America is still in crisis under a deadly heatwave & the power company can't get hundreds of thousands of households back online, but you'd barely know it from our national news.

The extreme, very long duration,& record-breaking heatwave across interior CA & broader Southwest will finally recede this wknd, w/substantial relief in most places (though temps will still remain above avg). But another major heatwave is already on horizon... #CAwx #CAfire [1/3]

Strawberry workers at this Salinas area crew have been at it for almost 8 hours on this sunny day. They earn piece rate so they work as fast as they can so they can earn as much as possible. Their body hurts at the end of the day but this work feeds their family. #WeFeedYou

"I’m reminded of the work-safety adage that, for every death, there are multiple near misses; if you fail to correct the problem after near misses, there will be deaths." SpaceX is far too cavalier about safety. Congress needs to have a little chat with them.

As I discussed before this well-predicted event began, overnight temps have been especially anomalous. Much of the sustained record warmth has been driven by remarkable overnight warmth, though daytime temps have also been very hot & record-breaking in many spots. #CAwx [2/2]

We braved the 111F heat at the Stanislaus County fair for 30 minutes this evening to see how my photos did. Turns out I did OK considering only the aurora had a researched game plan. Everything else was lucky exploration. 4 x 🥇 2 x 🥈 1 x 🥉 (Held my breath to unmask in these pics)

We’ve reached the point in our marriage that we BOTH forgot yesterday was our 18th anniversary as we walked the Freedom Trail despite the withering Boston heat for our history-buff kiddo. Happy anniversary @xenolith.bsky.social !

On Boston’s Freedom Trail today I overheard someone in a group of California teenage girls say “Like, I’m totally disappointed that California, like, doesn’t have an accent” in a very California accent, LOL.

5 years?? WTF, man.
Five years ago, I left @jenniferahenke.bsky.social burgerless and ran off with Christos Kyriakopoulos and @baoningwu.bsky.social in a borrowed vehicle to Ridgecrest, to put out some GPS and hopefully find a surface rupture. Job done reasonably well! (Was it really that long ago? Bloody hell!)

I’m really enjoying Acadia thus far, but boy, it’s a completely different experience than Yosemite. Reminds me more of European parks. Cadillac Mtn was awesome & Jordan Pond loop was perfect for kiddos. Sooo many people. Pics to come eventually. Bar Harbor fireworks after dinner!

Yesterday, I shared this same Canada Day thread on Bluesky, Threads, and X. Here's what I found. 🧵
“Canada is such a northern country, don’t we want a little global warming?” I often hear. In a nutshell, NO. We’re warming 2x faster than the rest of the world, driving extreme heat, flood, and sea level rise we are not prepared for. The wildfire season started in Feb this year. Feb! #canadaday
