OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Supreme Court rules state approval of first publicly funded religious charter school in US is unconstitutional.

No charter or religious school should receive public funding. Period.

Hopefully this ruling helps reverse all the private school voucher systems that are leeching money from funding that should be spent on public schools. For instance, Iowa has funding programs for both private k-12 (vouchers) and private colleges (Iowa Tuition Grant).

Reminder that most of the founders would be considered atheist by today's standards.

And a further reminder that they'd be considered slave owning rapists by today's (and their) standards.

I don't know the lore behind SCO-OK, but I'd expect its composition to be the result of the same one-party state political process that gave us Jim Inhofe, Markwayne Mullin, Jim Lankford, and Mary Fallin. (I don't know much about the current Governor.) IOW, low expectations re: Establishment Clause.

current gov is as bad as the rest, but 4/9 were appointed by dem governors (which oklahoma used to elect around half the time)

oklahoma was one of the last states to flip it's conservative dem majority to the gop after civil rights re-allignment, iirc

The other shocker is that it was brought to court by the state's Republican attorney general suing the right wing state school board to block it.

Wow! An Oklahoma SC actually issued a righteous decision?
