Just finished watching Derry Girls for the first time and damn, I didn't expect to have that many Feelings

Yeah - I grew up in an Irish Diaspora neighborhood during the troubles. There were a lot of feels through that whole series.

Half of my family wound up in the States because of some trouble with the black and tans, if family lore is accurate. Derry Girls had a lot of There But For feelings.

Grew up in the UK. IRA guy who’d done a firebombing was arrested at mum’s workplace. Had UK based Irish friends questioned on ferries going back & forth. I forget sometimes how much it was part of my life & I was waaay on the outskirts. Derry Girls brought it back. But reminded me I was peripheral.

And I’d forgotten until I started writing this that I got texts making sure I was ok as a Real IRA bomb went off near my house in London in 2000. (It was absolutely fine, not that near my house.) Even though that was after the Good Friday Agreement, I am still so thankful for the GFA.

The whole show is great but Sr. Michael is :chef's kiss:

I really hope we see the actress in more things, she really sells the character.

That last episode about the vote had me sobbing on my couch.

Rewatching the first season and the last scene of them dancing while the family watched the news of a bombing! Amazing show.

I've probably rewatched that ending a dozen times, and it never loses its punch.
