All of these have great satisfying endings. I think most fantasists want to tell a story that makes them feel good in the end.

It’s hard to avoid a title dark or violent, but The City We Became by NK Jemison is good urban fantasy. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman is very clever and not dark overall. The Magicians by Lev Grossman is great, a triology that’s sort of an adult alternative Harry Potter

1) your for-profit prison system depends on getting paid by the govt per head of inmates. 2) one of your biggest income streams is cannabis arrests, which are disproportionately black people. 3)cannabis is legalized in many places and thousands of sentences are commuted, emptying prisons /1

Also freeing black people and returning their voting rights 5)you need a fresh prison population to get your numbers back up, preferably blacks and Latinos because racism. 6) More that 50% of homeless families are Black. 7)make it illegal to Sleep outside. 8) Refill prisons with unhoused Blacks. End

I’m going to turn 63 soon. If I was asked to pass along one thing I’ve learned it is to never underestimate how stupid people can be. Second would be that despite how stupid they are, they always find each other and form groups that cause completely unnecessary problems.
