Beginning to wonder if Serious Moderate journalists are the ones who actually want the far right in power but they’re afraid to admit it so they project the enthusiasm for the far right onto a populist juggernaut that doesn’t actually exist! Many such cases!

Obviously different countries are different and one should be wary of drawing any conclusions, but I see this and I’m reminded of one very basic fact, which is that by far the biggest political coalition in the US is an anti-MAGA/anti-far right coalition

The 2nd leading pollster projects a similar result—if anything a higher range for the Left coalition. This wld be a much stronger result than expected for the Macron bloc. If confirmed, key takeaway: Left & Macronist voters transferred onto each other much more than expected. Clear anti-RN front.

Reaction is the cheapest heat around, and there’s a reason so many ostensibly leftist public figures start wandering down this road, especially when they haven’t previously had to juggle maintains a personal identity with a freelance public one. Jack’s right about this!

The attention economy is inherently reactionary because, like reactionary politics, its political economy reduces politics to aesthetics.

Nothing spurs a sincere ideological conversion like the need for more views, clicks, and paying subscribers.

The point being that this election represents nothing more than a fragile semi-reprieve from the worst excesses of decaying UK capitalist society; a fulcrum moment, more indicative of an incipient fascistic transition than a progressive swing. Left unchecked, we are headed into very dark waters.
